Accucraft 3-cylinder Shay safety valve fail......................

Indeed it be's - and here is the basta- culprit, still impaled on my trusty old Eezy-out...

Now, to find as suitable replacement that has a hexagonal body, so's I can use a tube wrench to install it..........
Aha, that's what I meant by a stud remover - two nations divided by a common language ............... well, three in this case

Let's see who can provide a suitable replacement here in UK. I was always well-served by Cliff Luscher when he was running the show over there in *Zwiebelburg, but I've yet to have any dealings with his successor, Robert Sobranyi, or whoever might be there now...

As I noted earlier, I think the new support guy is called David. Haven't heard from Robert in Marketing for years. But the eStore works - you can buy one online.

Might try nearer home with one of Jim Saunder's Wee-Bee's if I can find a dealer here. Stateside it's Jason, over here it may have been Simon Whenmouth but right now they are not listed on his site.

Élas, that the diameter of the thread is of 10mm, and therefore uncommon, to say the least......finding a replacement is.........difficult.

'kay......seems I'm not the first owner to find a problem with a replacement SV for the 3-cylinder Shay...................this was one of a number of useful resplones I found over on sister forum mylargescale...

I can answer as to whether you have the proper valve or not.

But, when I bought a Safety Valve from Wee Bee Loco it came with an adapter bushing to adapt between the boiler fitting and the Wee Bee valve. The new valve is smaller than the original. It does however, work perfectly. If you will send me email at steamerbill at att dot net I will forward you there flyer which describes their offerings. It may help. I have no affiliation with them other than being a satisfied customer.

Hmmmm. I've just found a UK supplier for a WeeBee safety valve and suitable adaptor, only to find that there is no mention of the fact that the prices don't include VAT until I get to the checkout. Is this usual?

Probably not uncommon - particularly if the company is more interested in business-to-business operation ( as the purchasing business will recoup the input tax before charging the output tax )

From what I remember I think the different thread dimensions apply to the gas jet too for US spec and UK spec Accucraft locos, as well as boiler water spout. I have both US and UK market Accucraft locos and remember when C2B were doing some work on my Shay they replaced the stock jet with a Ronson #5 jet. I remember Mike Darby mentioning it. I don't know about the German ones. So if you need to replace that any time keep it in mind. Max
