Accucraft K-27

Richie

Rio Grande Railroad , Mountain biking , Gardening
I have had so much fun running live steam on my line since purchasing a Accucraft C-16 Bumble Bee last year:bigsmile:
So when the oportunity to buy a second steam loco came up on Steve's web site a second hand Accucraft K-27 #463 forsale :love:had along thought about it and after seeing the loco in the shop Wifey gave me the go ahead to buy it . Havn't had a chance to steam the loco yet but every thing looks mint , the only thing that worries me are my R3 curves on my line last winter Mike (Beavercreek) brought along his track powered Accucraft K-27 which ran round with out any problems , the centre drivers are flangless not like the Bachmann K-27 which also runs round ok .

The loco even has working drain cocks

And lying :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Ditto - he also lied. :@
One thing I would watch out for though, assuming one of the type hasn't run on your layout, are those v low drain cock levers(?) below the cylinders - incidentally is there a 'bit' missing from the front of the l/h one? - if you have point motors they might foul them.

Oh Yus, that is one nice bit of machinery.
Well done, glad SWMBO gave the go ahead. It'll cost you! :impatient:

Oooooooh I do like that!................
I was looking at that loco as well but, besides not having the readies, she would struggle with my inclines.

Lovely, pure lovely

She looks even better than my old girl........................loco of course

Hi Keith
Found the other drain cock lever in with the spares have just fitted it back on but like you say they are very close to the ground will have to keep a very close eye on these .

Snap i see your loco is #463 as well Mike
The only things that seem to be missing from the loco are the rerailers on the tender and a wire that runs from the cab to the bell do you have these on yours ?
And do you found that the apron on the loco won't reach the tender just hangs down , it does this on my C-16 as well .

Hi Richie
Yes, I have the wires to the bell and to the whistle. Also the rerailer but I think that it is not an Accucraft part as it is not brass/whitemetal. Also it keeps dropping off so I tend to keep it in a box!

I have made two new aprons (also for the C16) . One is for close coupling and another for 'stretched' coupling. So they rest on the tender and depending on which one I use for the curves that the loco has to go around (when it goes on its travels).

Me and SWMBO had been saving for a train trip across the States taking in the Durango & Silverton and several USA Citys but due to Sara having several neck ops and i've had a few knee ops too it's looking unlikely that we will ever go it was her idea for me to buy the loco now and have the enjoyment with it while i'm still young and fit not knowing how we will be in the future , just have to get Sara several pairs of shoes now

hmmmmm glad its gone to a good home rich,,,,
i too thaught long and hard about snaffling that little
beauty but i decided to wait for a k36,,,,electric,,,
looks in good nic too,,,,

Hi Richie
Should be OK ..just
My Accucraft live steam K28 just makes R3 but it's a bit of a struggle.
Its the infrastructure that's the main problem, especially on curves. I had to move everything back.
What appeared to be adequate clearance turned out to be a collision!
Good luck

Hi Trevor
Will have to try the loco round the line before i steam her up should have enough clearance as plants and structures were moved when i got the Bachmann K-27 which used to hit every thing in it's path . Just hope i don't encounter the same problem with the front truck that i had on the C-16 . The C-16 has only hit one item and not on my line a LGB signal that my dad placed to close to the track the loco came off the track and wrecked the signal :wits:

Hi Richie
I think you may have missed me reply to your question about aprons in post 11 so just in case it is here again

"Yes, I have the wires to the bell and to the whistle. Also the rerailer but I think that it is not an Accucraft part as it is not brass/whitemetal. Also it keeps dropping off so I tend to keep it in a box!

Cheers Mike
Must have missed it what with going in and out of the house with the Plow .
Will get some brass wire for the bell cord have found the hole in the cab to tread it through will check with Steve if the seller has the re railers if not i can try the pair off the C-16 .
With the apron i might just leave that as it is what with my tight curves you would have thought Accucraft would have added 2 or 3 sizes in the box wouldn't have costed them much for the one on the loco to work the tender needs to be pushed up aganist the loco 2 more holes need drilling in the draw bar to bring it closer but then the gas pipe won't fit :wits:
That was one of the cons in the Garden Railways reveiw of the loco

Good luck with the K-36 that would just be too big for my line .
On the GRS web site they have 2 Berlyn locomotives for sale one is a K-36 the other a K-37 priced at £2995 each .

Hi Mike
The K-27 i got came from the same seller as my C-16 so when i had the C-16 box out the other day have a guess what i found the two brass re railers fit the K-27 tender and not the C-16 also in the bag is a black brass wire for the bell cord that was missing  just as well i got them both

Sun came out this afternoon so i thought i might try the K-27 for size on my layout before i steam her ,after clearing the line of sticks and stones i was ready to push the loco round checking for clearances on all the curves got away with out hitting anything and also stayed on the track the cylinder drain cocks also cleared everything i also fitted the brass wire from the cab to the bell found that the rerailers did hang on the tender but not very well more for show when the loco is stationary  Next job now is to try a steam test will see if i have time next week .
