I can't say i've ever seen a Accucraft K-36 , Andrew at Garden Railway Centres used to have them on his web site but are no longer on there . My dad has seen a live steam one when he had a visit to Chedder Models several years ago running on their out side track sadly all gone now i think .

Would be nice to meet up Mike and have 2 Accucraft K-27's running just not sure if the wheels are insulated on the steamer as i know from Dave's layout the C-16 wasn't as it cut out his transformer when he switched it on.

Just test them with a multimeter Richie.
Infinite resistance....everything is good

Mike - just looked at the list for the next person to send the
Round Robin Boxcar too.

If you are coming up Sat let me know, don't live far from Richie's

Hi Rob
your collection of freight stock is awe inspiring! If you fancy slipping one or two of those ULTX tankers or the Colorado and Southern passenger jobbies then I'm your man!

As to the round-robin boxcar, I think that Wales is next on the list (not sure if anybody actually put down their names for Wales though) but if it can wait till the G scale Society show on 22nd April then that would be great as I will hopefully be coming up with the possibility of a stop over and a visit to Richie's.
If it can't wait then I will send you my address (you might still have it fro the sales back a few months).

Had a chance to steam the loco today on the Codsall wood indoor layout steamed up very well and looked lovely in motion with the steam coming out of the cylinder drain cocks  the only problem i had with the loco was that it was just to big for the layout wouldn't pass a set of bolts holding the layout together ended up knocking off the small lever that works the drain cocks :wits:. So had to run the loco back & forth so the cab roof was removed to access the levers . did get a chance to shoot a small bit of film of the loco in motion .

Very nice shots and video. Loveley loco.

It amazes me just how tight a curve these Accucraft Mikados can handle. I have a K-28 Accy live steamer. Took it round to one of the 16mm soc' do's with the same rake you have. All ran perfectly on a well engineered wide open track until the end of the first lap...... fouled the platforms.......... 1/64" inch too high :@.......... Knocked off a drain cock lever, why are they only press fit ? Going to get R/C fitted this year. Happy steamings !

Cheers Max
Only just cleared the platform with the cylinders but came to a holt when the loco hit a high hinge on the lift up section of the layout which knocked off the other drain cock lever the other one is off and in the tool box wasn't sure how they were fitted as they do just push back on but not very tight could do with a nut and washer to hold them in place do you think a drop of super glue would do the trick .

I doubt that super glue would offer any benefit. I think a combination of sweating on and soft soldering with the correct flux and solder for the material (stainless steel ?) will be required. When mine goes in for the R/C fitting, with Chuffed2Bits (I have not material connection to them), I will get mine done then.

Oooohh ! There is a lot of inspiration there in those vid's. Beautiful setting, subtle detailing, stunning features like the buildings and bridges. I'm going to have to take a close look at these again and re-evalute my megre efforts so far. Thanks for posting Mike.

P.S. Not sure about weathering a £3,000 loco though.

Cheers Mike great videos of a lovely looking line i don't think i could weather my loco like that , be interested in the grade on his line as the loco was slipping in a few places . Next steam up will be round my line will get Chloe to film it

Well if there was wheel slip on his gradients, I know that there would be a whole lot more on mine!. Would need to double head..........interesting concept double heading two live steam K27s!

The Accucraft Mikados' are prettry powerful locos. Somewhere on You Tube there is a 250lb guy with a modified 5" gauge truck being pulled by one (I don't think any trickery was involved). Allied to that with those 8 smallish drivers that is one torquey loco, I don't think it will have too much problem meeting an incline......... mine just sloooows up a little when you show it a slope........and carries on regardless, even without any regulator opening. Perhaps a bit suspect in the adhesion dept.

But the idea of setting up a double header with a couple is rather appealing. Or how about a prototypical train - 1/2 in front, 1 in the middle, 1 at the back ? Ought to be arranged.
Max.
