Another Playmobil Diesel Transformation. This time a Baby Kamel.

K instead of C in "camel", K instead of C in.....

Agree, though, that it's a really nice bash, pity Playmobile stuff costs so much in this country.

Aha the penny has dropped, well you see I did have a HO Metre Gauge Exhibition Swiss Layout with all Bemo Stock and Track. It was fully sceniced and I think looked rather nice. As in the case of all these things it was based upon a Prototype Track Plan but the Station Building and other things were captured from varying parts of the RHB. Then of course I wondered about a Station Name and a collective of two locations were used, Klosters and Disentis. Hence what you see. Sorry for any embarrassment, must make sure that it is not seen in future pictures.

Many thanks for your nice comments.

As promised some pics of both Normal and Baby Kamel.

I think Baby needs some more weathering and maybe the Standard Gauge Buffers too.

Nice work. It looks great. As you say, it needs to work a bit and get dirty.

Further to my comments on its pulling abilities and I do not mean the Ladies! Well on Thursday a mate of mine was round here and we had a Train Running Session. As we had been running my standard Harz Train Set I decided to give the Mini Kamel another Testing. Well it appeared to be OK if I drove it properly.

On Setting 1 it came to a stand at pretty much every curve. As these are 4ft that is not good. However on Setting 2 it went round OK. On the Gradients as it started to Slow Down I put it to Setting 3 and it continued just fine. This was with 2 LGB Harz Coaches and a 4 Wheel Van all with Metal Wheels. So if it is driven it turns out to be just what the Doctor Ordered. Now very pleased indeed with the little Baby.

Have you checked the gauge of the wheels? If you could ease them in a little it might help it get around curves.

Good idea gregh, I think that I need to open up the Chassis anyway as there is a nasty noise from one of the Gear Trains. It has not had much running so cannot be much bad. I think that the grease needs to be redistributed. That would be the time to revise the B to B a little.

Something else to try. Wipe a little vaseline on the inside of the rail heads of the sharp curves (and wipe it off the rail heads !). If the loco goes around it better, then the problem is with the wheels/gauge and not to do with the gears or motor.

As these seam to be in the news again, I thought that I would have a little play with mine this morning. It's task was to take the Oil Train from Stiege to StraBberg. The Vid action starts at Lindenburg where the Train had stopped for a passing move so the Engine was shut down.

This shows just what good little beasts these are, but I would not use her on the Full Oil Train again.

Apologies for the shaky hand in places, being Driver, Signalman, Shunter and Photer is just a bit too much!

Like you I found that they pull OK with appropriate settings.

They have enough weight to give traction.

There are two motors - increase motive power (although they are small).

The plastic gears are to some extent protected from stripping by a clutch built into the drive train

Remember they are for 0-4 years and need to withstand being forcibly pushed along the carpet against motor running direction.

Also although the diodes reduce voltage and not current they will reduce power, assuming that the electronic speed controller built in is of the pulsed power type which would maintain voltage but use mark space to control speed. Same effect as partially flattened batteries.

Nice informative Vid of the beast undressed as it were. Many thanks for posting, these are very underestimated Locomotives. I would certainly commend one to anybody that would like an instant Battery Locomotive. Compared to the alternatives in the Battery Stakes, they are a good inexpensive option. In fact I think they are a steal, particularly if you can pick one up at a good Sale price. They are currently (for the set) available from Amazon at just under £100. Not as cheep as we have had them, but still pretty good value.

The Swiss 3 Car Set 7938 is available at around £150 from the same source. It surprises me that no one from the Forum has posted about this set. It would appear to be a somewhat similar set up in terms of Radio to the 5258.
