April 6th The National Garden Railway Show East of England Showground, Peterborough, PE2 6XE

First time I've managed to get to the Peterborough show, and I'm glad I did. Somehow (probably due to having SWMBO looking over my shoulder) I managed to come away 'only' (Hah!) £80 lighter than when I went in. The few goodies I bought and the layouts we saw have given me my mojo back a little bit, so I might even get some work done on the railway this year. I even got a man-hug from Mike. :D

Mike is a equal opportunity hugger..
Great to see you at the show,

We can produce those. We do a full range of embroidered items, polos, fleeces, sweats, hoodies, caps and beanies etc, along with mugs, coasters, Keyrings and the like. Good way to raise a few quid for the group too.

I would speak to Paul, admin, site owner first, as he has things, er cooking...

Two tempting offer in one thread! - Though I doubt breakfast for 4, under $25 these days?

OK, I'll put my hand up, .....that was 5 years ago.

$8.00, including the Diet Coke. Mel's Drive Inn, of American Graffiti fame. All we wanted was a snack for afternoon tea. That ended up being dinner, as well!

Fish and Chips in Minneapolis.... count them, 5 fillets, each. Irish themed pub. Bit stingy on the fries, I thought. About as far from the ocean as you can get, and so cheap too.

You obviously asked for the slimmers' portions :nod::nod:

Thanks for posting the pics of the show,it looked a good day out,I wanted to go this year but worked this weekend, always next year, thanks again,Rio

Whilst all this was going on up the East Coast Main Line I was enjoying a full English breakfast on a charter on the West Coast Main Line topped and tailed by a pair of DRS class 68 diesels:

Destination was Snowdonia which I had last visited in the early 2000s when I was volunteering on the Welsh Highland since when I've always wanted to return to see the work I did and ride the completed WHR. Saturday's tour seemed the easiest way to do this.

Train took us to Llandudno Junction where greeted by a fleet of 8 big red coaches to take us to various parts of Snowdonia. In my case the coach headed for Blaenau Ffestiniog where Linda and Blanche were waiting to take us down to Porthmadog:

Once down at Porthmadog Linda & Blanche disappeared and were replaced by a Beyer Garrett

which took us on to Caernavon. Highlight for me was going up the Aberglaslyn Pass on which I had only walked the trackbed back in the early 2000s:

Coaches were waiting for us at Caernavon to take us on to Bangor to start the return journey to Euston where we arrived at about 10:30pm. A busy day but well worth it. We were lucky weatherwise, the sun was shining in N. Wales and even saw the top of Snowdon covered in snow.

No G-Scale activity during the weekend until I had to collect a big box from me neighbours which contained a not so big red box containing a green 0-10-0T which had arrived courtesy of DHL .......

Mizzy Gizzy and I enjoyed the show.

As it's local to us we met quite a few of our friends from Cambridge as well as many from the forum, including Jimmy B.

We also bumped into Beancounter, who now resides in Warks, but used to live close to us in Cambridge.

We visited Glendale Junction before the show to pick up a wagon, and Brian and Caroline were also able to get across to the show later.

Picked up a few ISO containers from Casey for my now lengthened logistics train, so I'll post a picture later in the week.

We were planning to visit the NVR afterwards, but we ended up going straight on to sunny Hunny for the rest of the weekend....

.......which was cold, wet, damp and misty :devil::devil::devil:
Tell me about it!

Mr Grumpy was open though, so I brought some bit and bobs for the N gauge layout....

The bush hats didn't seem to popular, maybe next time it should be Hawaiian shirts to distinguish members of the forum :)
Mizzy Gizzy said I looked very smart wearing my Trilby....
