The EJ&KLR is, in my mind, a little slice of Austria in my garden (well Mum's garden). I have been inspired by a lot of different narrow gauge lines across the country - but namely the Steyrtalbahn, Ybbstalbahn and Waldviertelbahn.
However, those three lines were all nationalised and operated by OBB through to either closure or preservation. One company that still operates narrow gauge lines in Austria through the last century is the StLB. It is this line that most inspires my eclectic collection of repainted and bashed LGB stock if I'm honest.
With that in mind I have been toying with the idea of portraying the EJ&KLR in the 1980s. Now obviously I could do the obvious simple conversion of the LGB V51/V52 diesel - but this is quite a big machine, and a little out of keeping with my other steam locomotives. The StLB actually made extensive use of a small fleet of diesel electric locomotives, that visually have more in common with the starter set Schoema...
Hence a plan was hatched - and I've now got my hands on an example to base my conversion upon. This first post is just the back-story, a list of my plans if you like. I don't expect to get started with this project in earnest for a few months as I've got the Roll-wagen to finish first
The plan is to detail and repaint the Schoema - nothing too drastic. I'll replace the moulded handrails and then repaint in a reddy orangey colour (similar to the Zillertalbahn and later StLB red). I've also designed some custom transfers for the cabside already, and will look into getting the works plates etched in nickel silver. The chassis will be sprayed dark grey and the roof will probably be black.
So, here she is before I start - and here also is the proposed EJ&KLR logo - this is inspired by the StLB logo - and will be Black and White on the Schoema rather than Black and Orange.
