SWMBO is very taken with the Glacier Express, it was on T.V. again yesterday and apparently we just have to go (look at the tears in my eyes  ).
Now I thought a Glacier Express in G might be nice for Chr***mas for [strike]me[/strike] her, but the LGB stuff is ouch money, so I thought of a fake:
- 3 x Playmobil 4124 observation coaches
- 1 x Piko 218 diesel in red possibly repainted to match the coaches
- a squad of Preiser peeps for the coaches

What do you reckon?
More to the point will the Playmo coaches look okay behind the Piko loco? Anyone capable of putting up a pic?
Ta,

Philbahn has the LGB stuff and it looks brilliant once you have seen it there is no way you would go down the playmobil route, but i am very happy to be proved wrong .

Try sending a PM to George, I think he might of done somthing similar

the thing i have learned is buy right the first time
and RhB stuff is very expensive-even before the 'troubles'
unless your wife is into trains, and in particlar childrens toys-i think you may on wrong track, so to speak , a dead end......
(some people love dolls, toys, etc -but does she?)

admiring something and wanting for yourself can be two different things-(at least for me they are)

jewelry, lingerie, perfume, tech toys (if she likes), personal items and accessories are always a good bet-

i think there might be serious issues if i gave my wife something trains/ LGB-she'd probably saddle me with a new BMW payment

I would have thought that the Playmobile Coaches and the Playmobile Electric Locomotive to go with them would be a better option. All could be detailed up somewhat, a new set of LGB Pantographs on the Loco would lift it considerably. New Transfers and as much detail as you can put on everything. You could be up and running for the cost of that Piko 218. By the way the repaint on the 218 is not as easy as you may imagine. Getting the windows out to respray it was a pig.

Netty, I remeber George's outfit which gave me the idea but he used the Playmo 'lecky loco which looks too toy like, that's why I thought of the Piko.
And Stevedenver, I just ordered her a new Renault Wind, the Poème de Lancôme is on order and the less said about techy bits the better, so some train bits would be grudgingly accepted. :rolf:
Oh decisions, decisions.
Keep the advice coming especially with pixxies!

Would like to see the end result

Go for the playmobil / Piko set up. From the photo above the LGB coaches look shorter than they should be to me which rather spoils the effect. Call me picky but at over £300 a go I would expect a scale model.

Didn't pay that for them. But lgb's rubber rule has played a hand

Also the interior of the restaurant car isn't true to life but don't forget this was when they went belly up

Of which bit? :rolf:

OKay Phil, your kit is the dogs licky bits, but the cost is painful - I would have to sell all the rest to fund one train, but further down George has posted his train and it looks acceptable (I stress acceptable) to me.
And for our mate from the Peaks - ta for the tip, I'll be in search at the paper shop (top shelf, right?) tomorrow.

Ta George

Forgot to mention, the kit I mentioned is on Ebay so way cheaper than new (New prices: €255 the loco, €35 the coach but they are apparently discontinued).

Somehow that train works. It shouldn't, but it does.

The middle photo has a great mix. It kind of encompasses the ethos of many garden railways in one photo.

Agreed, and that was the Piko livery I was thinking of, so no repaint required. I reckon if I can get it done for about €200 it will be just right and no divorce required.
Now, about the Sachsen IVk....
