Finally starting my layout

Also been messing around with this fueling station. The platform is ok . I didn't like how the concrete looked. But now I think it looks more natural this way. It looks worn. After the weathering it might be ok.View attachment 225908 View attachment 225909

You could give the concrete a wash of colored, oil based paint (thinned down) to highlight the mortar joints or to change the overall colour if you wanted - just give the castings three weeks or so to fully cure. But, whatever, it is coming along very nicely!

Thanks. I hope to have some time tomorrow night to work on it. I like the idea of the oily look. And weathering the stones.

Got some more work done today. Got the other trestle pillars concreted in and grouted and before it dried I took a plastic cake mold of bricks and pushed it into the grout . I can live with it I think.15033563582231706436268.jpg 1503356499343741584047.jpg

I'll look at cookies and over-baked cakes in a more positive way from now on;)!

Clever, lateral, thinking on your part!

Now I need some advice. I have been weathering everything . But now I'm thinking the stuff is outside. And will weather out there . so the stuff I weather will it be overly weathered lol. That's kind of a tounge twister? Should I let things just weather naturally?

There are a couple of schools of thought to this.

1 Weathering done will change over time and look more natural.

2 Items not weathered will look a bit stark to start with but will weather over time.

You pays your money and take your chance, I personally prefer a little subtle weathering then let nature take its course. Though if you really are concerned you could make a solution of Garden dirt with water and weather with that. Some will get into grooves or imperfections nicely and hang around, other bits will wash off in time as nature starts to do it's thing. But not undooable till that has happened.

Another good weathering option is to use Black Concrete Dye Powder mixxed up with fresh water to make a not too dark solution, this works very well on concrete but can be built up if the effect is too light. Just letvthings dry between applications.
