First Sighting Of New Version Feldbahn Steamer (lgb)?

Now where can I get some larger (1:18 rather than the usual LGB 1:22) figures from?
I've got some figures which are too big for my stuff James. what exactly are you looking for?

Roller bullets - a new one on me but seems a perfect solution - less friction.

This is how they came, as extracted from a Davenport a few years ago. I think it was Mel who was converting one to battery power. Not sure if available as an official spare part from Bachmann.

Worth shortening the cables on the M decoder, to make it an easier fit in the small space, and while fitting new spade connectors (available from Muns at GRO) you can splice an extra wire into the brown and white leads (the track power ones), run these between the gearbox and footplate back to the cab, and squeeze an S sound unit (with mounting tabs snapped off) into the cab coal bunker. 25mm or 36mm round visaton speaker can go under the cab roof with either hot-melt glue or a simple ring of blu-tack.

I've been fettling mine a little before weathering it:

First up was painting the rims (not the tyres!) of the wheels satin red - this makes a big visual difference, so despite the large flanges still being bright silver, it certainly helps reduce the toy appearance of the model. Secondly I used the red to paint the green clips and black screws in the buffer beam at the back under the cab. Finally I touched in the smokebox door handle in red.

The black was used to paint the brass coloured rod that connected the steam feed from the dome to the cylinders to the controls in the cab. I also used the black to paint the red section on the top of the rear coupling.

The big question is what next... I originally intended a repaint but I quite like the base colours. I am planning on doing some etched works and line plates, and could change KJF to KJE quite easily... I need to check, but I think the underside of the cab roof, and possibly the cab inside front spectacle plate would have been cream or light grey.

You could just use a ZIMO MX645 loaded with LGB sounds ( recordings of various locos, whistles etc, you choose which combination you like) in place of the M decoder and just run speaker wires to the cab.
You would then get a decoder with configurable sound ( using your Massoth kit, no extra programmer needed) and top notch motor control etc. Oh and you'd save a whopping £50 too!

I have installed a Zimo MX645 in mine, put a small visaton K2040 speaker in the roof and a capacitor in the coal bin on the side. Works great. I also installed the same components in my cloe this weekend and ran the decoder and capacitor in the rear bunker.

So the Zimo is small enough to fit in the space designed for the M? I'm presuming it's an HO decoder, but with enough voltage range to be used for G?
Thanks for the idea, I don't yet have the decoder for this one (used an M&S combo - better than an S&M - in one of my older ones) so I might well go with your suggestion....

One of my Stainz has such a decoder Jon - its tiny and sounds great too, like this...........

Yes Jon they are the same physical size. They came cope with 35v and have a continuous rating of 1.2A on the motor connections and 0.8A on the functions. They come prewired for stay alive capacitors, just solder a 16v cap onto the wires or use a mini super cap ( around £22) for slow running over point frogs.
As Paul says they make some noise for a small decoder as they have a 3W amplifier.
My own Fieldbahn steamer will also be getting a Krois uncoupler on the rear.

That's one of the reasons I use Krois uncouplers as they don't need an additional board to work. You just connect them straight to the decoder function output and set the function to coupler mode.
The other main reasons being that they work really well and they are cheap as chips! :-)

You just hook up the massoth coupler directly to the Zimo board, the adapter board is just to make all the components plug in for easy assembly. Massoth, unfortunately, is not “cheap as chips”.:(

I think I've found a real example of this locomotive...
This one was built in 1904 as a 2' gauge example and re-gauged to 3'6" later in it's life...

Well found James. Looks just like it.

Saw one running today (the LGB model that is) and it ran and looked great.
