The last couple of days (in between seasonal duties) I've made a start on another standard gauge (G.3) wagon, this time it's a pretty bog standard 13 ton all steel open as seen all over the BR system for many years. I wanted an all steel wagon as these were (are) often seen in extremely rusty condition which I wanted to re-produce.
The body is totally scratch built from plasticard, plastic angle and a few bits of wire for door fasteners, hinges etc.
The rust effects are achieved using Modeltown rust dust. You can get some really different textures and colours with this depending on how thickly you apply it. Some was applying to the wet paint (Halfords red plastic primer) and in some areas PVA glue was painted on to hold the dust in place.
There's still a lot to do after the festivities including lettering, obtaining and then re-gauging a Bachmann Troublesome Truck chassis and a final weathering with the airbrush.
