That parcel van looks Fantastic Mel
Have you seen the white metal steps that Steve makes in his shop i used them on my snow plow build .
Damn, should have had a look when I there last week - cheers Rich.

"exponential curve" - John, you don't half use some big words since you moved darn sarf!! :rolf::rolf:

Re:G64 back to back

If anyone's suspicious of the new van's provenance, just tell them it's a pre-grouping survivor from one of the small Welsh lines that were absorbed into the GWR in 1923. That should cover a host of possibilities.

Like your thinking sir.

So the underframe "stuff" is now complete and you'll notice I've come up with a solution for the steps. The vacuum pipes etc. are pieces of garden wire covered in heat-shrink and wrapped in stripped bell wire. The window glazing looks white in the photo, but it is actually opaque. The clear plasticard I've got has a protective covering which I've left on. Behind the glazing the windows are barred (from Pola iron railings). It looks quite effective with the light shining through them.

Another bit of re-cycling - the vacuum reservoir is made from some more garden wire, plasticard and the top off a bottle of Tamiya thinners.

The one thing that's got me beat is a pair of screw couplings. I might actually have to buy some from Brandbright or GRS. :nail:

Re:G64 back to back

Brandbright only do 3 link couplings but they are really good. Give me till later and i'll dig out the company who makes some screw link's- much better than the GRS ones.

On the subject the few bits Brandbright do in gauge 3 are really good. A pet hate is that GRS buffers have white metal heads, unlike the Brandbright ones and Brandbright do the couplings in brass not whitemetal too.
Ive built a cheapish gauge 3 full brake, will get around to posting, not as good as yours mind! i've used GRS sides, and various castings etc. Reckon it cost me about £80 all in.

Thanks, I'd appreciate that. I was just going on the fact that Brandbright show a screw coupling on their website. Love to see some pics of your coach.

Question - should the ends of the parcels van be black for the BR period?

Re:G64 back to back

I am waiting for the famous mel weathering and finishing touches, it looks so good already that'll be awesome :big smile:

Re:G64 back to back

Most welcome.

The GRS ones are awfull. Have to re-cut the thread, dont ask me how I know!

this company may also be of use if you build a bogie coach, As I am amazed that you have to pay at least £80 for bogies elsewhere. I made my own bolster out of plastic.

I use them for a b set coach I got from E-bay, again will try and post some pics this weekend :-)

Looking exceedingly:thumbup::thumbup:

Re:G64 back to back

brilliant mel just brilliant. weathering genius no less- i knew what it would look like knowing you but still could to see it. I am really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. I am putting the claribel in the car today so as not to forget to take it on holiday. Out of interest what are you going to do with it? It has a split in the plastic on one end face. Is it worth me trying to find it's roof? I have decided not to do the coach as a shed thing and so you're getting all of it.

Oh cheers mate. If you can find the roof that'll save me a job, but if not, don't bust a gut. I've not totally made my mind up what I'm going to do with it - I did have an idea about turning one of the new 6 wheeled coaches into a camping coach (45mm gauge), so I might use your coach for that? Alternatively, I bought twice as much plasticard as I needed for the parcel van from Steve.

Re:G64 back to back

Looks fantastic Mel

Re:G64 back to back

Hi Mel, I have just chucked it in the boot, so it's there when we drop by. I am afraid a couple of downsides- i can't find the roof any where, but will look again in the daylight. worse ALL four of her buffer discs are gone - I am irriatated about this as that smacks of vandalisim on the part of one of the boys  Anyway it is a rolling chassis so I am sure you will be able to do something with it.
