Hunting success Aristocraft Class 66

Got a black aerosol here!

Not seen that one. I assume it is a plain unit to be finished however one wants.

Yes ,I believe it was brought out to do just that , I have all the rest now , plus the two Colas repaints, I,m winning

I remember a "stealth shed" going round ebay a year or so ago, it seemed to take a long time to sell.

Congratulations on your progress - I wonder if I might be so bold as to ask the prices you had to pay, I believe they can climb north of £700 now.

I've been on a more modest quest to find my first one, but I haven't yet managed to crack the differences in the various production runs.

All the various model numbers appear to relate to just livery differences - is it possible to identify the production changes like sintered wheels and solid stainless ones - and the axles with the wheel locating step, as opposed to the tapered axles which can cause gauge problems - without having to actually take the loco apart apart?

Best of British getting the wheels off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Not sure what the y lock the threads with, but I had a screw shear before it cracked the locking compound!!

Had to heat it up to get the *&%^*** thing out!!

I was under the impression there was only the one run of these (in the various liveries). I wasn't aware of any production differences such as the wheel mounting that you mentioned (though I've read about such changes in other Aristo models over the years). Where have you read about such differences with regard to the 66 (just out of interest)?

[edit] Ah - are you thinking that the sintered D-hub wheel changes that happened to the SD45 motor blocks also happened to the 66? I've never seen that applied to any 66, I thought the 66s were all made a long time before the 2012 SD45 run (as documented on Greg Elmasian's pages)[/edit]
