Sad to hear about your disappointing results with those loose seats. If they are as heavy as a Ge4/4iii that does not bode well for travel no matter how well they are protected. I'm expecting the worst for mine by the time it comes all the way to Canada. I think it is more of a design problem though and less of an issue at the assembly line, because if it's designed right, assembly should be almost foolproof. I just hope they get a grip on it asap...from what was said by MLGB on the Spur G Blog, they are aware of the problem and now shipping with more protection (bubble pack etc) and saying they will correct any with an issue.

The seats appear to be spot glued into place, two mm thin legs connect them to the floor. Shock obviously breaks the brittle join. Screwing them Into place would have been a better option. The doors are loose to move about in transit, some modelling tape should really have been put over them to hold them closed during transit.

The model sits against rigid polystyrene, no bubble wrap or shock absorber as such, this would definitely be useful for such a heavy set and box.

Hopefully LGB will learn from this, it IS a stunning model worth every penny!!

I gotcha, now I understand--a couple of little dowels that aren't strong enough. I guess they have the same challenge getting glue to stick to that plastic as I do!!

Got a phone call from Harvey at the Hobby Shop at Faversham on Wednesday that a large package had arrived for me from Hobby Co (yep, I`m one of those guys that try to support my local UK dealer), was busy yesterday but was up at the crack of dawn this morning for a very pleasant drive over to Faversham to collect this:

My local dealer called me today to say that the replacement set had arrived (to replace the one I'd rejected because of the loose seats).

This set appeared perfect on close examination. Nothing broken, no detail parts loose. Whilst checking it over, I couldn't help but notice that the central non-powered coach had a speaker fitted. I looked at the box and yes, they'd indeed sent us a 20225 rather than a 20220. And they'd also sent the dealer an invoice for the correspondingly larger amount.

I ummed and aahed but have indeed taken delivery of the more expensive set. An undamaged perfectly working Allegra set in the hand is worth two in the bush. I've also heard that the later 20225 sets have had a lot of the fault issues ironed out. And it really is a beautiful piece of kit.

Good to hear that both of you have received your Allegras in perfect shape. I'm hoping mine will arrive soon (and without damage). Maybe when you get a chance one of you could let me know what the different function keys are set for so I can get started setting up my "cheat sheet" card that shows which button does what when operating.

Well mine got a good recepition at the NW meeting today.
All intact and no floating bits

'Tis true it is a beauty the only problem I could see was that the box was too large to hide under my coat............ >:( :'(
 
No Keith there are two problems. The second one is it won't fit in the display cabinet ! :o ::) ::)
However I think there maybe some kind sole will offer it a good home!

Looks very nice Phil. Does the Allegra come with coupling hooks to couple to any RhB coaches/ wagons for towing like the real ones.

Hi Steve, Yes the rear snow plough can be removed. The you have the two halves that is supplied and a normal lgb hook & loop. In between the cars you have a straight bar with serations in so you can either couple close to gether orfar apart

Mizzy isn't exactly a rail enthusiast either, but even she will readily admit travelling by train was a great way to see Switzerland.

Especially if you ride the Bernina and the Glacier Expresses and have dinner on the train too?

Go for it Carole and treat your old fella like Mizzy did me.... ;)
