LGB stainz smoke gen prob

Do the standard 18v smokers give out smoke at a steady speed or do the locos have to be a full chat?

Sparky230 what would you want for one ?

Thanks Jim

With these you will find that running at anything under 18V with give a rather slow treacle of smoke, and running a stainz at 18V track power would be like running scalextric. Much better to go with a 5V unit

at a reasonable speed u get some puffs, nothing spectactular

if u want one, look Up Hope and Aid direct on the net and donate something to them and i'll throw a couple in post I dont need them they came out of scrap locos all my running stainzs use the older type stacks not the inserts.

yes have address
generators will be in post in morning

Sparky - i took the liberty of editing your email address. The problem with putting your clear address on an open forum is that you may gets loads (and I mean - loads) of spam.

thanks silly mistake of mine

You running dcc? il only be running dc analog at the mo so im gessing that id have to run trains rediculasly fast to get good smoke , i think as funds alow im going to upgrade the smoker and go to dcc for better sound

Jim

Well good old royal mail seem to have lost the smoke gens kindly sent to me by sparky so im back to square one . so going to be running dc do we got with 24v or 5v with a reducer ?if so dose anyone have a diagram of the circuit or is it a buy it item?

, also dose anyone run the digital sound lgb do for analog dc with the battery back up for when the locos stood still with no track power? ive seen it in an old cataloge its got a sensor that pick up magnets in the track to trigger diffrent sounds

Jim

i've found some more whilst looking for a gear set, so i'll chuck them in post, dont worry if the others turn up,

Mr sparky you are a genuine top fella ,you are defonatly on my xmas card list this year :thumbup: if the others eventually turn up il let you know . il send you some buiscuits in the post

Do you run dc or dcc?

Jim thanks again fella

all my stuff is dc, mainly all older stainz locos with the smoke generators built into the stack, get enough smoke for me by using aristocraft controllers that are pulse width, find that gives a good glow on the lights and reasonable puffs

the older stainz loco has the smoke gen built into the stack and you replace the whole stack,
Aristocraft controllers use a form of control called Pulse Width Modulation, it's difficult to properly explain , but basiclly the motor is contoller by varying the width of pulses to it rather than the voltage, so most of the time you have a large voltage present on the tracks. This makes lights and smoke gens easier to use at DC

but dont use it with newer, digicaly equiped locos..as it frys the chips..

Right got you , is there any way to date a stainz ? mine has brown and yellow wires on the smoke gen if that helps?

Jim
