PIKO G 2012

I got a close look at several new Piko items at a show this past weekend, including the croc, US mogul, silver euro-passenger car, and the german 3 axle switcher, they are all very well done models, I was very impressed with them. Their track looks great too. Hopefully I can add the mogul somewhere down the line. These are the most interesting new G items in a long time as Marklin/LGB seams determined to do just reissues for the time being.

I think the 2012 piko line up is superb....they haven't got away from the classic fun of G scale, they have added to it. PIKO has concentrated on standard gauge ...now, for me, I love the narrow gauge LGB size of trains. I think the small wheelbase trains have a charm that even American diesel mainlines just don't even come close to match. In HO, don't get me wrong--I love long prototypical length passenger trains , especially a Marklin mainline steam hauling a express...but for my G scale, I don't have lots of room, I use EXCLUSIVELY R1 track /turnouts, and thanks to Lehmann engines and cars I can run faultlessly for hours. If PIKO have stepped away from the "traditional" G scale, its only in length and size. But what I like about PIKO is they do NOT FORGET us lovers of the little engines and cars. Just look at the new Bavarian passenger & freight. Also, the BR80 and passenger cars can go thru R1. They are a PERFECT compliment to my narrow gauge LGB. PIKO HAS DONE IT RIGHT...especially making the BR 80 in green!!! However, that BR80 drive gear needs to be upgraded once i buy the engine...the prices are very , very good, too. Also, you can mix & match--you can save for a LGB V200 diesel...then use the cheaper PIKO silver coins with it until you can save another $2000 for some marklin passenger cars...

I was really looking forward to the US 0-6-0 switcher until I was told they were putting sound in it with a corresponding price increase which will now put it at $450 MSRP. Thats too much for me. I'd rather get the new Accucraft Dora for that coin.
I'm really disappointed by Piko's decision. They are making the same mistakes Marklin did by ignoring the base entry market and following the money . I am now EAGERLY awaiting Bachmanns Lil bug hauler line, at least they seam to get it.

You don't think it might be a bit, how shall I put this, curvaceous for the good burghers of Ruritania? I understand that His Serene Highness tries to move with the times but surely he needs to at least consider the sensitivities of his subjects?

Is that what's-his-name at the controls? We all know him well :rolf: What's-his-name certainly gets around.

Well, we workers have noticed that there's only one coach, so no prizes for guessing which jumped up member of the nobility will have this as a royal train.....
Meanwhile, the women of Cottam have been sent into the woods to chop firewood and raise money for a 5 car set. I've never been keen on the standard gauge stuff, but if it really looks this good, and you can get coaches, then I'd be sorely tempted.

Dunno why but REALLY WANT ONE!!, has to be a five car set though and nowhere to run it. It's lovely.

Prince Rudolf seeks constantly to improve the lot of his subjects. Adding more coaches to the RR fleet can only be a good thing. Although a small supplement will be required to travel on the new 1st class only train, doubtless the peasantry will be inclined to work harder to enjoy the added comfort.

Mind you, slipping a new 5 coach, 3.25 metre long train past the ever-vigilant palace Treasury team might be a bit of a stretch..... :@
Hang on a moment: Netty, you buy the full 5-coach set and leave it down here to run when you want. Now what could be fairer than that? You even get free storage for your kit!

The Quinton Line could be tempted to import one of these. Apart from the PPM 50 this would be the only piece on non USA stock on the line. I guess the best tactics are to buy the base set for Christmas/birthday and then increase the length by stealth over time.
Pity I've just had to shell out for house repairs so am a bit low on funds for the next few months.

Prince Rudolph's gererosity knows no bounds and as soon as funds allow the peoples republic of Burscough will send the aforementioned railcar for acceptence trials and would glady make use of the more than adequate storage facilitys avaliable at Prince Rudolphs disposal, the only caveat is that any peasants making use of the new luxury standards (after paying a supliment) must have bathed recently (within the month) and remove all footwear and soiled clothing and store it in the racks provided for this purpose.

Excellent. Thank goodness you've not become the Democratic Peoples Republic. Words like "democratic" have a strange effect on His Serene Highness. Even stranger than that Shefali Oza person on the BBC. Wonder if Piko could make a model of her to drive the TEE rather than "Mad Max"?

OOh - If Shefali was the driver I would get my credit card out immediately.

Is that "credit card" Quinton rhyming slang?
