Plastic water

I think I'm actually sitting on an idea, albeit probably better suited to indoor use. It is a kind of polycarbonate sheet that goes under the office chair to protect the laminate flooring from the casters. One side is rough and the other smooth, in my case the rough side is up but for modelling I would paint the rough surface then have the smooth surface uppermost (instant 3D effect). I got mine from the carpet department of a furniture suppliers - and here's the thing, I had to sort through a box to find an undamaged sheet but for modelling that isn't a worry so a reduced price could probably be sorted.

Hi whilest searching other things I found that video on you tube. The discription is in German, but the video says it all. "Wasser mit Wellen" (Water with waves)

Not sure what you mean by the diorama stuff, would it be the Woodland Scenics water products for example? If so I have used inside but in all honesty don`t think it could be used outside, sorry If i have wrong end of the stick,I have used layers of yacht varnish in the past too.Might be a stupid idea but,,,,,,,,,,perspex sheet?
Point taken about the perspex,,,,,,was just a thought. With regards to the Woodland water, would an email to Woodland get the information? but having used the water "stuff" a thin layer takes a day to go off and as a liquid out of the bottle finds its own level,so if it was suitable it would probably have to be modelled inside and then put into situ when done, just a thought and an old pic of the water in use in a canyon /rock site on my 009 layout,as I recall that was 3 applications,,model is 4ft long and took almost 1 bottle, must say gives great effect, good luck in your quest and where theres a will theres a way:):)G&B PICS 015.jpg

this water is about 8mm deep, upon painted plywood.
made in layers of 1.5 mm thick. between the both lower layers i smeared some colour, to give an impression of movement to the water.
the upper layers i mixed with green ink, for less clear and more natural looking water.
the material is cheap clear two component resin sold for repairwork on glasfiber watertanks.
our subtropic desert climate did roughen up the surfaces of the repairs over the decades, but did not darken the resin.
Hmm,
that does remind me of a Sample I provided last week . . . :-O
Sorry, hat, coat, door.

I'm pretty sure there is a Philip Island south of this part of Victoria (Australia), but I haven't been that far south for some years!
Apparently there is so!

Home to a huddle of Penguins according to my better half.

We will be having a Philip Island on our railway layout which we are currently building. It will also have G scale penguins but it's name will be a tribute to my late father....

Thinking a little more about perspex, I had some really old stuff that had been in the light and gone a brownish colour. I think that may have made a great looking Canal or slow running stream.

Ever seen the water where the sewage flows into the river?

Isn't the Pacific Ocean made of plastic water.....:D

Sorry to put a "damper" on your reply, but usually the water going into the river from a sewage works is cleaner than the river. Rather a vile fact, but most of the tap water has been through the "system" about 6 times.

Yep,the way it is:lipssealed:

Wrong guys. over here the sewage is dumped raw into the rivers, there is a sewage plant being built but will not come into operation for 3-4 years. This is why after heavy rain our shower doesn't smell of soap. :wait:

Yep! And soon to be found in an Iceberg coming towards your ocean. I watched a prog on the Beeb last night. Thing is, biodegradable plastic is a reality - why aren't food chain suppliers compelled by law to use safe products? The consumer (aka disposer at the near end of the chain) is always blamed for buying these wrapped products.

It also surprises me that some enterprising third World impoverished Country does not have Ships harvesting the stuff from the Sea as it does have a value.

I was surprised to learn that the clear outer wrap on the (plastic) tray of tomatoes is a sandwich of three different plastics.. - Hence not recyclable.

Some enterprising nations have rented out non-habited islands as rubbage dumps, sadly some of the rubbish floats off.

I know that Europe has much stricter rules when it comes to things like this. They also have banned hundred of chemical compositions that are still used daily here. And don't get me started on pharmaceuticals.

As someone once said to me about Capitalism, "It's the greed system". On the positive side, it creates wealth and jobs. But as we have seen over the past forty or so years, it creates more wealth and stagnation amongst the workers salaries.
