For the past few days the forum and the forum only have been acting up. I don't believe its my computer, because no other site is acting the same way. As I type this, the words are appearing with a delay. It doesn't happen until I am about halfway through a sentence.

I believe you use an Apple machine. I have had no problems at all with the forum either using Firefox on my iMac or Safari on my MacBook Air neither of which are very modern. What browser are you using and have you tried a different one?

Paul

For the last few days I have been unable to participate in discussions. The words I am typing are delayed by minutes and most times don't appear at all. G Scale Central is the only site this occurs. It is truly by chance that what I am typing now is appearing on the screen.

Please help.

I see that this first posting on the subject worked. I just posted it a second time. The gremlins inside my computer must be asleep

Dan, no difference here, even further away from the UK.

You have had issues with your iPad many times, so perhaps it is your internet connection or your iPad. Common suggestions is to use the SpeedTest app to test your speed AND the ping time, and to see if you added or updated any software recently, and if so, undo it.

Greg

replied elsewhere, sorry Dan, but this is not the first time it has happened to you only. Have you updated or added software lately?

Did you check your internet connection with the SpeedTest app, and also besides speed, note the "ping" time...

Also I would guess you are wireless with your iPad.... do you have any other computer in the house that you can test with?

Greg

Greg knows about these things, so he most likely has the answer.
No netty problems here at the moment, almost due north from you so we're about the same distance from GSC Central.
However, my laptop has been known to shirk.

Dan,

There are no issue with speed on this site, also when typing there is no transfer of data to the web site till you actually hit the post button, so the issue is with your device/browser.

Try rebooting fully the device, and also check what storage you have available.

Paul

If you cannot get the speedtest app for your iPad, then use a browser to go to Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Greg

(In Dan's "defense" a problematic internet connection or browser can interfere with you typing characters, especially on this site, since it "journals" your typed characters.

for proof, as evidenced if you type a reply, never post it, close the browser and come back later, the characters are still there in the "post reply" box... indeed this site is able to impact your typing if something is wrong along the way, i.e. between your fingers, through the screen, through the browser, through the internet to the site.)

Sounds similar to the problem I have with my work soft Ware, I believe its caused by too much stuff in the memory, or something.
Have you totally shut down everything? It wouldn't be caused by having the forum open twice? I'm not sure if you cab actually do that with this site, but I have managed it elsewhere and got some very strange "events"

The forum software XenForo is used worldwide, so if it did not work with an iPad, the world would know, and many of our users would report.

It must be something fairly local to Dan, could be his ISP, his local network (to his home), his router, his network (something on his network), his iPad configuration. If I remember correctly, Dan has a very old iPad with an old OS.... could be that this OS and his browser are not working well.

Greg

The reply I just typed was doing exactly the same thing on my WIN10 machine that I have just switched on.

I find it is common first thing in the morning but I have put it down to the anti virus taking over the computer.

I am connected to the supposedly you beaut fibre optic network of the National Broadband network.

No issues with my iPad which is an Air one running OS 14.7.1.
You need to update to 14.8 due to security issues in the mail client.

Haven't we come a long way since the days when you bought tiny flints to put in your cigarette lighter so the little wheel could create a spark when you spun it with your thumb, and the petrol ignited if you were lucky?

Or unlucky, if you got a six-inch jet of flame
