The Logging, Gravel & Brickworks Railway

It's been a lovely warm day here in Slofolk, despite it being September.

The only problem though, is that it gets dark at 7.30 in the evening.

I've replaced the bulbs in the lights at the bottom of the garden today; they use the same lamps as used on Ford Mondeo sidelights. The lights come on automatically at night, by means of a mains socket with an LDR sensor which the transformer plugs into.

I must get round to putting lighting in the station building, probably using 'festoon' lamps as used for car interior lighting.

Picture of Weybourne at night....

Now, on the Logs, Gravel and Bricks railway, I've always had a few logs to transport (cut down branches), plenty of gravel (the track is laid on sharp shingle, but I've never actually had bricks.

A couple of weeks ago Cheeseminer found some model kits with ceramic bricks at his local Garden Centre and he posted a thread.

On a return trip along the A14 recently, I diverted via Flatlandia, and picked up some of these kits for myself and Mole.

My reason for wanting these bricks was for wagon loads, and I was passing a building site where they had bricks stacked up, having recently been delivered by lorry.

I liked the idea of these brick loads, so I commissioned Bigjack to cast me some resin ones, made from the ceramic individual bricks, and I took delivery yesterday....

I'm really pleased with them and I reckon that they are just the job. They can be fork lifted onto wagons or craned on using the 'grabber' on the logging tractor....

Got a Chok Blok Lok here at the moment, waiting to be driven onwards to the ESLR.

Decided that it must be tested, as it's the law you know....

During a quiet Easter period on the LGB, the usual maintenance work has been carried out by the Infrastructure Dept....

Weybourne Yard has plenty of freight ready for dispatch to Sheringham for the mainline connection.

A rake of flat wagons normally used for transporting locally made bricks is stabled along with Hopper Wagons of OEG, the Old English Gravel Co. Some of these wagons are leased from DR, or Dragon Rail....

It's the day before G Rail, and I've taken the day off. It's warm and sunny, so I decided to sort out a section of track that has been causing problems.

The middle track in the photo has some 'decking' between the rails, made from a recycled packaging strip. This was glued down but it had come adrift and twisted due to the sun.

So I screwed it onto the track, using the holes in the sleepers for track pins....

One of the things I also did to make the track fit, was to leave gaps between each track piece, but on fixing the decking, I made sure that the rails were butted up tight.

However, this left me with a small problem....

So I made the shortest section of LGB track ever, with an offcut of rail and one spare sleeper....

To make sure it was secure once in place, I glued in a couple of 'dogbone' joiners....

Job done!

Can you see the join?

The LGB's main customer is the Old English Gravel Co (OEG) and V52 has been rostered to take the empty hopper train to the quarry for loading....
