Not done a lot with the LGB of late, due to work and GSS commitments.
But the Railway Directorate has decided that the sleeper built buffer stops no longer meet the latest H&S requirements for the Main Line Terminus at Sheringham....

So the old sleeper built stops have been dismantled for use in sidings elsewhere on the LGB, and new railbuilt buffers have been installed, which are more than capable of stopping a run away freight train travelling at the maximum line speed of 20 mph.
These were purchased from a railway in the Burbage area, whilst the CME attended a meeting of G Scale Railway Operators recently held in Walsall....

The greenhouse wasn't there in those days and the neighbour's chickens which occasionally escaped into our garden are now long passed their sell by date.
The young lad in the blue T-shirt, Kriz Liz, is now a strapping six footer....

For some time, the Management of the LG&B has been looking to compliment its busy Freight Engine fleet, by the addition of another mid sized Locomotive....

Various options were looked at and trials of various Manufacturer's Locos were carried out. The 218 class was available and within the Loco Purchasing Budget, but it was deemed to be a little on the large size for the LG&B's loading gauge....

The Mallet proved to be very powerful, and able to cope with the tight curves found on the LG&B, but it could not be easily converted to Oil Firing....

The Management tried to source a 2095 Class, following favourable reports of the one on trial on the W&GLR, but these popular locos command a high purchase price and was therefore beyond the LG&B's budget....

Then an offer of a suitable Loco surplus to the requirements of a railway in South Staffs came to the attention of the Management. A price was agreed, and a V51 class engine joined the LG&B's fleet....
