The Mighty Stainz

We visited Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds today.

They have this Stainz in the window display that they reckon covers 8000 miles a year.

This loco has been running for over 40 years now. Once, some young scrotes smashed the window and kicked it around for a while.

It was recovered and repaired. The original LGB track it ran on wore down and was replaced. I have a piece of the original 60100 it ran on, which due to the wear, I now use as a programing track.

And this mighty machine still runs on today. It is a testament to the original LGB build quality.

Does anyone else know of a tougher loco?

I think this one should definitely be in the record books....

For many years there used to be a traditional toyshop in a ginnel off the market place in Helmsley, North Yorkshire with a Stainz pulling a couple of wagons on a track in the window. From memory, I'd say this was running for 35 years or so before the owners retired, taking it with them.
