Re:TrainLine 2011 - Harz Mallet

One also has to wonder if the DEV diesel is an indication of other DEV stock coming? A model of "Hoya" or sister "Brunchhausen" would be the bee's knees...

Are the sound units going to be Massoth? Certainly cheaper than LGB premium for sound usually is. 2012 will be expensive for Harz fans!
Sound units will be from Dietz (I read that somewhere, but can't find it anymore... But I'm quite sure it's Dietz.)

Hm that is NOT good news, not a great fan of the Dietz sound systems. Too tempramental and a real pain to get into sync. Well that applies to one that I had added to my Harz 2-6-2t anyway. I am much happier with Massoth and LGB sound. However I would love to see that there have been improvements. If not I will buy a Non DCC mallet and put a massoth Chip in it. May probably do that anyway.

I'd agree, my one experience with Dietz is in my Spreewald (bought secondhand with the sound unit already fitted) - there is nothing wrong with it per se, but I also prefer Massoth (possibly just because I'm more familiar with them, admittedly). With the 200 Euro price differential, the cost of buying the analogue version and fitting an XLS will be pretty close to the cost of the factory-DCC-sound version; I'd most likely choose this route, same as JonD.

Jon (not D....)

Re:TrainLine 2011 - Harz Mallet

In terms of sound quality, Dietz is considered the standard by many, e.g. recent tests in Gartenbahn Profi. I personally prefer Dietz or Zimo to Massoth. The only Massoth sound chip I had was for the Brekina VW railbus, and I was not at all happy with it (sounds not present as advertised). Everyone has their own personal favourite, of course ;)

There does not as far as I can see appear to be any update to the expected 2013 delivery of the Trainline Harz Mallett. Any one have knowledge? At least the failed events of the last few days mean that we are still hear to bend our cards when they finally appear!

Does anyone know how well their first loco release, the V3 diesel, actually sold? Apart from myself, no-one on here has even owned up to buying one yet! Even I only bought the special "low-budget" version made for Modell-land, in plain unpainted green and without lights - it's still in bits on my workbench awaiting repainting, detailing and DCC chipping.

I'm just a little concerned that poor sales of the V3 MIGHT mean that we never see the Mallet or other locos from them at all - which would be a great shame.

Jon.
