Trams: Is There Much Tramway Interest On Here??

Oh, talking trams................... ;););)

3'-6" Snaefell Railway track on the left (not running  ) and 3'-0" MER tracks on the right: it looks bright and sunny, but as you can see from the clothing, it was brrrrrrrrrrrrrr coolish.

Finally Padua. There is only one tram route. It uses the French Translohr system where the trams run on rubber tyres, a single central rail serving for guidance and return current.

When we visited Padova (Padua) back in 2011, I found those trams quite interesting. And some locals found my name quite interesting also.

By the way, there's a tram in this film..........I recall the young lady giving me a look.....:wondering:..... when she noticed my camera.

Like Crich, super place did you see any Dogs on site?

A couple more Tram pics to add to the list.

New cars lined up in Edinburgh back in 2013 waiting for the full start up.

Rather more than I would have expected at a Museum, to be honest.

Bit of an "odd" day there as, apart from the LRTA event, it seemed to be a free admission day for anyone living within 4 miles of the site and also for anyone who had purchased a National Lottery ticket for yesterday evenings draw! Presumably the latter was due to them being awarded an HLF grant towards a major upgrade/refurbishment of all storage buildings on-site that takes place over this coming winter.

Is the Douglas car a runner or was it on display only?
Non-runner as far as I know, and I'd never seen it outside before.
They had put out a line-up of the three cars that the LRTA (or rather LRTL as it was then) had donated to the TMS when Crich was established - The Douglas car, Southampton 45 and Cardiff water car 131. The latter 2 certainly are in working order - and I have driven 45 myself on a special day there a few years back.

I seem to remember they don't run it due to the gauge being slightly narrower than standard gauge or the wheel sets being narrower so it had a tendency to fall in between the rails. which is a shame.

Yes I wondered, but couldn't remember quite what the problem was.

Just had a look on their web site https://www.tramway.co.uk/trams/douglas-1/ , it says this,

DHMD 1 is the oldest electric tramcar in existence that has never been rewired. So although it has been restored to working order, it is likely to remain as a largely static exhibit in view of the pioneering – and irreplaceable – state of its mechanical and electrical equipment. Nevertheless, it has made the occasional sortie from the Exhibition area, one such instance being the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Tramway Museum Society in 1980.

I bet the insulation on the electrical cabling is in an "interesting" state by now.
I remember contemplating the cables on a 1950 built trolleybus back in the early 1990's and deciding it needed a complete rewire before it would ever run again. It never happened, and it is still a static exhibit!

Hmmm!

:wait: Much like myself then. I'm a very static exhibit today.

:giggle:

Thanks for the Dog gen guys, looks loke Barney will be getting a trip to Crich next year.

An OcCre 1/24th kit, running on 45mm track, of a Soller Tram. The photo was taken at the G Scale Society Solent Local Area Group Exhibition, Wickham, Hampshire, 4.11.2017. The tram was one of a number built and displayed by SLAG member Keith Lambert on an automated tram layout 'Heritage Trams'.
