Turntable anyone?

Hey never thought of that I've got one from my father-in-law's house he sold. Was almost ready to take it the Habitat Restore store as a donation. Think I'll keep it for awhile longer.

I happen to have an unused Pola turntable I would be interested in parting with....but it comes in a very big box so transportation could be difficult unless you can get down to the far south east corner.
Hi Keith, Just wondering if the turntable was still available and for how much? Although we live in the Midlsnds my son lives in Kent where we were last week
Cheers, Tim

Purchase one 430 mm diameter plant pot saucer (black) online for about a fiver. Disassemble the rails from a few Hornby tinplate R1 curves. Acquire a suitable length of treated decking planking or WHY. Nail 4 plastic pulley wheels, 2 at each end of decking. Fasten Hornby or Peco rail on decking. Stick it on pivot.

Install turntable where it can be moved manually or configure a Bowden cable. From there, I leave it to the ingenuity of others.

A not dissimilar idea to Perry's in respect of the pot saucer, but utilising a 'lazy Susan' and aluminium alloy for the deck with Peco rail soldered to copper clad paxolin sleepers which in turn are screwed to the deck. The pivot is a jack plug and socket which can be utilised to provide power to the rails if needed; in this instance it's not required as this installation is only used for the live steam fleet.

Some nice Merlins there, I had a Monarc and Mayflower that I sold on back in around 2010 not long before I moved from Hemel Hempstead.

Perry; Indeed nifty, but ouch! as regards price.

Jon; The Monarch was ordered from Merlin during a visit to the Model Engineering Exhibition in the mid 70's and collected from their works in Wales on our next trip back to the UK. (we were living the ME at the time) The Mayflower is my good lady's and was acquired about 4 years ago at the Stafford Show. (the Ragleth is mine and the Billie is also hers)

Merlin,

Lazy Susan bearings are even more expensive! If the turntable is supported by the circle of rails, then the pivot is only to centre the turntable & could be just a nail. It's what I did. Total cost was £8-15, including the Meccano pulley wheels. Narrow gauge railways were always boracic.

I'm interested in acquiring or building a G Scale turntable that can be motorised and eventually remain outside during all weathers. The Pola turntable seemed like an option but it doesn't look like it's available any more.

Am I correct in assuming that I'm going to need to scratch build something instead?

There's currently a LGB turntable on e-bay. These things go for silly money, but as I type it's still just about affordable at .£91.69 plus postage.

Egadszooks...."Lazy Susan" bearings, expensive....Heck...I have three turntables built, using them, and they sure were "NOT" expensive...but then I live in Ottawa Ontario, The Dominion of Canada...a part of the Third World, so I guess they are much less expensive here. !!!
