What is a good window adhesive?

Hutch

G Gauge, Raising Peaches, Apricots
After a couple of fruitless searches I have decided to show my ignorance with the question. I have some OLDer pieces of train that have had the windows fall in (or out). I realize that if I ran battery power that this wouldn't happen.

The plastic is a very hard 1/8" thick rigid sort of stuff. Is the Ultra-Violet cured cell phone glass glue the best solution?

I do have problems with being sloppy with the sticky stuff, so I tend to under glue as compensation.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I was going to say UHU general purpose - but that may not be sold under the same name your side of the pond.

It's a clear contact adhesive that has improved over the years and now sticks like wotsit to a blanket.

Don't use Cyano................whatever (superglue) as it can cause some clear plasticky materials to go cloudy.

Was that an intelligent answer, or what :emo::emo::emo::emo:

I am once again reminded of the story about the woman who got her Vaseline mixed up with her putty.... all her windows fell out.

Try PVA type of stuff, it dries clear(ish) and doesn't attack plastic. It seems to work for me.

Sounds

Sounds like Aristocraft windows! I'm pretty sure that if it's going to happen it will - regardless of mode of operation - those Sierra cars always end up with loose glazing. You have Gorrilla adhesives over your side of the pond they are good (but I'm not sure which variety!).

Walthers Goo (can be difficult to find) is a sort of rubber cement that never totally hardens and is messy to apply. It seems similar to the old brown Uhu that LGB used to mount windows. It holds well, but parts can be separated without damage.

You could try canopy glue or 'glue & glaze'. These are adhesives designed for fitting windows that dry completely clear.

Very intelligent!:nerd::nerd::nerd:
A quick look on Amazon.com (i.e. the US site) shows that the spirit-based UHU is available across the pond:

Over her they dropped the yellow livery and went for something purple, then dark blue, but I guess it's all the same stuff.

Being spirit based, it can loosen up the paint in some situations, but the modern stuff certainly sticks.

I handled my Accucraft brass caboose a bit carelessly, and popped window, but re-fixed it with UHU :nod:

i don't think so. in south america as (decades ago) in germany they sell different types of glue, each type in a tube of different colour.
apart from the yellow "allpurpose" at the moment i got uhu hart (hard) yellow and blue, uhu textile yellow with a blue edge, and uhu super glue yellow with a red edge.
if memory does not fail me, there was a uhu plast in blue as well.

A recent building purchase from Germany came with a yellow-and-blue packaged tube of UHU "Allplast" included for affixing plastic detail parts - looks like a variant of the standard yellow-tube stuff specifically designed for glueing most types of plastic..... haven't yet tried it on the plastics that LGB use.

Jon.

Thanks for all your recommendations. Just ordered some canopy glue. Didn't know it existed!
