A British Locomotive?

All change on the livery front

This Mack articulated Railmotor has certainly had a few liveries in it`s time. When acquired from the Grunt Futtocks Railway a number of years ago it was in the Company`s light brown and tan scheme. It was renumbered No95 in the Pakefield Joint Railway fleet and outshopped in Chocolate and Cream. When the Joint operations ceased in 2013 it was decided to repaint the vehicles into Blood and Custard and as such the Mack has now re-emerged numbered E10275.

I should mention that whilst the Pakefield Joint closed, it was as a result of the other half of the operation, James Race, moving a few miles away to live with his girlfriend and start a family. This does not mean he has lost interest in Garden Railways and a new line has been laid at his new home over the past months, and operations have started using Ex Pakefield Joint tramcars.

The articulated Mack looks an interesting item - was it scratch built? The Blood & Custard repaint photo reminds me (given the angle of the pic ;)) of the Karrier three-wheeler!

Yes, Mick it is scratchbuilt. The power unit is a Hartland Mack switcher, with one bonnet removed and replaced with an articulated coupling (well a metal pole for the passenger unit to locate on). The passenger car itself is made from wood. I did think of making it a three wheeler, as I am sure LNER had them, but couldn`t be bothered to have three rail track laid ::)

Thanks for your reply. Now you show the switcher all becomes clear! I have a Mack but it never dawned on me that one had provided an important part of the bash :-[ It looks great in its' new livery.

Another of my repaints is this rather garish LGB Tram Loco, I really never liked how it looked. So she is now in satin Black and hauling BR Vans, based on an idea by the Wisbech and Upwell.

It's good to see you have your own livery on your stock.

And yes catenary is difficult to keep in place. - I had a short stretch of it on the top line - not only the animals knocking it over - the odd size 10 would catch it by accident.

I have always liked a corporate look to my fleet Paul, and although the chocolate and cream is being phased out, it is being replaced by 'Blood and Custard' so I will still have a personalised fleet of stock.

I forgot to mention that the tram loco is in fact the second to go through the paintshops.....I think the first is on page 2 of this thread. Just to prove it here they are together this morning working with the PW gang, including a Pakefield Joint' liveried crane too.

Some trams have also been subject to a 'British style' makeover.......this one is a converted and re-motored Bachmann with an unpowered trailer.

The few remaining Pakefield Joint Railway liveried vehicles are due for repaint over the winter. This Works Car was constructed in 2011 from a Bachmann toastrack car and has been in regular use since on PW work. It has been outshopped now in Blood and Custard, along with the wagons it hauls. Very fictitious, but I am happy with the result.

This was the car in 2012 and this morning. The bright low sun made photography difficult though.

The sun came out again, so the works train was taken out for a few trips. The crane and match wagon being recent repaints into the Blood and Custard too.

I also found this photo of the Works Car being constructed in March 2011, which may be of interest.

I have young grandchildren, and of course they want to drive the trains. So I got a little battery loco, worked by a simple switch on the rear of the cab (up to go forwards, down to go backwards) and painted it into the current colours of chocolate and cream as it was in a bit of a sorry state when it arrived.

This was fine until this Christmas, when despite being between 5 and 7, it was observed that most engines were now Green. So an immediate repaint was insisted upon and 'Whizzy' as she was known is now British Railways D731. It worked as they are out chasing her round the garden this morning with a couple of vans and very pleased indeed!

Grand-Children seem to have a 'thing' about green engines.. Once they get past a certain really useful blue one of course!

Engines with faces are banned!!!!!!! Thomas came to visit once some years ago and was informed that he did not have the required safety case and was sent away!

This will be the last post in this section I think, as most of the Ex Pakefield Joint stock is now in the new colours.

The final Tramcar was completed today, originally one of a pair purchased from different sources and both in need of lots of TLC.

They were numbered 78 and 79 in the Joint fleet, and were easily told apart as 79 had a pantograph. This car is still this form and went with James to run on his new line.

Car 78 has now been outshopped in the new Blood and Custard and now carries stock number E79954
Hopefully it will give many more years service as it has been 100% reliable so far.

I am not sure if I should post video links on here but they seem to have been deleted from the Vid Section anyway. But anyway here they are. The far side of the garden is now in the process of major re-construction for the installation of a very British style Railway Station.

The first major part of the re-construction was to separate the tracks and re-route one into the centre (and replace a large chunk of lawn that now does not have to be mowed....bonus!) and some British terraced housing has already been acquired. The planned Station will be on the straight section and work to instal it is now going on for a Spring opening.
