Behind Closed Doors

So after you have removed the top bit of the bunker, will you replace it with a couple of coal rails Mr Wood?

And will it be a Barclay in your mind? Or do I just have a strange way of looking at things?

And as to hanging on to Ron's feet, well it is a tough job Grant, can we hoisy him back up through the engine shed sky light now? (Or should we just leave him dangling there while we adjurn to the pub to discuss motive power arrangements?)

Happy steamings,

John

Hi John
I'm thinking along the Kerr Stuart lines, something not too dissimilar to the Tralee & Dingle Number 7, but I'm growing kind of used to the existing side tanks, so a variation?!! given of course that the T&D loco was inside framed.
Will be having a mess around with some ideas and variations over the next week or so. Cowcatchers and a bell have also been considered!

An excellent choice Mike!

Interesting to see what you do with her. I am fascinated that you will move the body forward. I don't like the overhang either but the cab is quite tight at the back, so very little room to move it forward as far as I can see.

Ah now we are talking...

If someone can do it without major surgery to the frames (or new ones, shock horror), that will be very interesting.

Well if I (with a little help from my friends) can do it to a "Lady Anne" I'm sure someone with DLG's talents can do it with his latest acquisition. :)

Okay, the pony truck may well be overlooked this time! I dont fancy hacking into the main frame, clearance from the cylinders might be an issue anyway.
I have not removed the standard accucraft black control knob from the regulator yet, so will possibly have a look at this over the weekend, there is just enough room to edge the body shell forwards with the control kob in place. Finn is goint to be r/c fitted in due course so maybe some adjustment will be possible then, that overhang is a bit ugly!
Sealion, I was thinking coal rails, you read my mind!

Had a close look and I reckon probably 4mm is possible for the body to go forward. YOu would then end up withthe radius of the bottom of the bunker leaving the footplate before the endof the loco - not sure I would like that more than the overhang.

As for coal rails, they are under consideration here too but you would have to remove the top of the bunker (as you suggested Mike) in order not to have the coal on the glasses.

I like that Lady Ann, but the more I look the more I feel that the cab doesn't look right.
Maybe it needs to be stretched and a rear pony put on. My goodness then it would start to look like an NA.
Oh shut up Ron.

Ah good, having let go of the ankles I can open my eyes again:rolf:
Seems we might all have the same bent, we see a nice new model then see further as to what we can do to personalise it. I like the idea of cowcatchers and something to reduce, at least visually the rear overhang too. Look forward to seeing the evolution.:)

Duly noted Graham, however, I have a cunning plan:)

I have a few alterations in mind for the loco, have used a bit of black trimline to show how the bunker is to be lowered. The body shell needs nudging up about a quarter of an inch as there is an overhang at the rear I don't like

Nudging the body up seems to be a biggish job.
Would adding a bit to the buffer beam not be easier and still look OK?

I have seen quite a few 1:1 scale tanks which have guard rails fitted across the lookout glasses to prevent them being broken by coal.

Managed to capture these shots this morning, should ease the pressure on our colonial contingent, and save DLJ hiring a blow torch and disc cutter.

Ah, when you order the nameplates, please ensure that you use either Fionn mac Cumhaill [Irish] or Finn McCool [Anglicised].

Or, a different one on each side as on the FR.

Our man "In The Know" reports that this is what the F&St.M shed staff are planning for the new loco, Bunker lowered, coal rails added, cab nudged forward by a bit to get rid of overhang. Tool boxes added, tanks extended and altered. There has been some talk of painting the dome to match to rest of the loco, but the managing directors wife is against this, and as she will be contributing towards the cost, it could be a fight!
what do you think?

Very nice- much better proportioned in my opinion- never been a big fan of Lawley, Graham has the only one I've seen someone do a decent job of so far... watching this space with interest!

Edit- oh, but paint the dome- please!

For me, 'Dadrock' (GHW's fathers day show) will live forever!!

Now, who else thinks his modified Lawley looks like a J88?
