I used to buy my Hob-e-lube sets from Sandy at Scottish Garden Railways - but I don't know of another UK stockist.
Anyone got any ideas?
Do not do that, oiling it won't help at all as the pivots and bearings are probably gunged up. Adding more lubrication will make things worse. Get it serviced properly. Or have a crack yourself.I have had my grandfather clock sit for 10 years and would like to get it restarted. Starting yesterday. Every day for a week I am lightly oiling the many gears inside. After a week I will assess then start it up. Do this every 2 years from now on. Ya
Do you actually read the advice people give you!!Yesterday I took the cover off to oil. It looks good and clean in there. Little to no wear from what I can see. I will do one more oiling tomorrow. Wait a day then try it.
Are you sure you need to ask that?Do you actually read the advice people give you!!
NO! DO NOT KEEP OILING IT! Read what we've posted. Are you sure the clock is dead level and upright? It may just need adjustment of the palletYesterday I took the cover off to oil. Any mechanical clock with a pendulum. A clock with a platform mech, ie a wrist watch can obviously be at any angleLeveling any mechanical clock is critical, agreed.
Wouldn't it be fun if that were not trueAny mechanical clock with a pendulum. A clock with a platform mech, ie a wrist watch can obviously be at any angle
Well thanks for the suggestions. And yes I do read your suggestions. When I bought the Grandfather Clock I only payed 600 for it brand new. Howard Millar in Michigan Cherry. I was told it has to be oiled every 10 years but reading online they say 2. I am optimistic it still works great and will give it a go in a few days.Wouldn't it be fun if that were not true
Yes raise the weight to speed it up, lower it to slow it. DO NOT USE MORE OIL!!!!!!, IT WILL CLOG IT UP.Clock works. Yaaaaa. I will oil it again in a just cus I had it sitting so long...it is running a bit fast. There is an adjustment some where ..on the pendulum maybe..
Really, I thought the Verge escapement was used in early pocket watches, but as you are aware, clocks are like steam engines, awkward buggersThere are other non-pendulum clocks that need to be level.
I have a verge escapement clock that wants to be level too.

So my Alco f unit. I would like to eventually get rolling stock. Rolling stock that is the same height as my F unit. So question is at 1:29 scale will it match my F unit. Seems to me I read somewhere that people are lowering their engines??? I want it all to match. All the same height.I have seen much nicer. My late brother in law got one as a service award around 15 years ago. It no longer works. I like mine for what I payed for it.
