LGB 2012 [Update 28/08]

Re:LGB 2012

I guess we will never know but it would be interesting to see which sells best, the Alegra or the Piko TEE.
The TEE feels more mainstream and is cheaper but PIKO is getting a bit of a name for poor technical design (Croc & points). The Alegra sounds like a better bet technically and will fit well with many existing garden railways. Also it will probably have a little more detail.

I am from Yorkshire and I echo the sentiment. I suppose it is quite handsome for something that looks like a modern tram.

And what is the difference between these Abe 8/12 and Abe 4/16?
Swiss practice is to list number of powered axles / total number of axles
There are also 5 car units coming on the RhB, the 8/12 units are for use on the steep Bernina and Arosa lines and will be also hauling extra coaches or wagons regularly. The 4/16 units are to replace the current railcar and driving trailer sets on the 'suburban' services to and from Chur where the lines are flatter and they may only need to attach an odd coach or wagon occasionally.

Re:LGB 2012

Juergen,

Neule indeed announced their model two years ago, but after some months there was a dead silence about it, because the cooperative party that would be producing the Allegra had gone bankrupt. I'm not totally sure if they officially cancelled the project, but it was close.

You should know that making a new model starts one year before bringing it out to the public. So at that time when Neule was having troubles, Märklin must have thought "Alright, we'll make one". Last month Neule announced the delivery of their Allegra, probably not knowing LGB was about to make one and vice versa.

So I'm not sure if it's intended competition.

Re:LGB 2012

Looks an interesting prototype and fits well with their other RhB stuff. I'm still waiting to see anything of the IK, not even a computer drawing yet? Or will we just see the finished model in the shops?

Re:LGB 2012

James, there have been some shots of IK at Märklin TV. But who cares about Märklin TV? Just make the pictures public... Their marketing strategy is just awful.

Note also that only the ABe 8/12 are dual voltage and able to run on the 1000V dc Bernina Bahn line, as well as the 11KV AC main network. Both driving trailers are motored and they are also able to haul coaches and freight wagons on the steeper parts of the Bernina.

The ABe 4/16 will only operate on the 11 KV network, and as they only have one powered driving car, and half the motors of the 8/12, they will only be used as standalone unit and are thus unlikely to haul additional vehicles....

The pictures of the pre-production sample at the Neule Shop look quite convincing. http://lgbfreundesaar.kostenloses-forum.be/lgbfreundesaar-beitrag3409.html

Maerklin probably ordered some already, so their engineers can study it and learn how to construct models.

Have Fun

WOW! If the production version is as good as that, it'll be a belter!!!!

Not that I'll be buying one, it wouldn't suit my railway. Interesting that they have used Bachmann figures rather than Preiser.

Are you certain that the figures are Bachmann? They look like LGB to me, with some unknowns thrown in.

Re:LGB 2012

Dan,
the seated passengers are later LGB. The parents and child in pram are the Bachmann 'Scalescene(?)' figures and are slightly smaller scale. Driver is unknown origin.

Re:LGB 2012

'tis a fabulous model but sadly beyond my budget - but one can drool a little!

Re:LGB 2012

Interesting to see the new 'sets' on the http://www.gscalenews.com site...
My second child is due in May, a boy, I wonder if the wife would mind me getting him his first trainset a little bit early! I do fancy the Wangeroo one!

Of course she won't mind. You'll have to get something for Ellie too, of course. Scalextric set? Worked for me.

Re:LGB 2012

Elly already has her LGB trainset - but I suppose a new wagon or something might be nice for her...

Seriously, the Wangeroo set, at less than 400eur is AWESOME value for an OVAL (not circle) of track, diesel, powerpack and 3 wagons. I'd get one just for that reason :)
