Re:LGB 2012
if indeed the porter , albeit decoder, is $383, there is going to be a problem with the continuation of LGB i think-
when these were last offered, about 2001 i think, in decoder version, made in germany, retail was about 200 and sale at discount was about 130-i bought 3 at the time as i thought them a very good value at the time
so some ten years later, they have gone up , as has the exchange rate, materials and labor
it does indeed seem , in retrospective, more than a bit high for a loco that is, imho, a bit lower in quality than a stainz
from what i have seen , here in the US, the prices are more or less reasonable, retail for new freights cars is around 70-120-which isnt that much more than it was in the mid 80's-yes the days of close outs are gone-at present at least-i think this is a lot, per car, but i don tthink its unreasonable, i just was used to getting them for sometimes under 40 new!-but that was a few years ago
if however, the euros are adjusted, as was the case in the US, then things might be better
i too knew that if walthers was the distributor there would be real issues as at full retail many LGB items are simply not a good value, imho
but i have it on some reasonable authority
when walthers is removed as distributor, which i understand is in the works
perhaps we shall return to, not the good old days, but better days than at present
