LGB 2012 [Update 28/08]

Re:LGB 2012

Nothing wrong with made in China if the design is good and the QC in place. Most of the other scales models all come out of China - and the recent Kof seemed a decent model.

In the guitar world Fender kept the high price tag for American made guitars, then had Fender Mexico as a mid range price and the cheap stuff was Squire, made in the far east - all had overlap within the ranges but what it gives the consumer is a little choice if they still wanted the brand name. LGB could do the same with Chinese made, eastern European made and German made lines - but they need to have consistent quality and finish.

Re:LGB 2012

I?ve always thought there is a place for the battery train set and wondered why it has taken this long to re-appear. With the price of brass alone plastic track brings the cost right down. Do we know if it will be moulded in this colour or are they using it to pick out the various mouldings? If not bit of a shame as even with a repaint the blue wheels will show with wear. I also hope they mould the track in black not yellow for the same reason.

Be awesome if they bring back the diesel!!!!

Hornby were saying the other day how profits were down as people have less to spend and are no longer buying the high end of their range as much, so maybe its the same with LGB and they have realised. I have to say that I will buy this set as the skip wagon with a repaint and new wheels and couplings will go well with the other 22 I have and the chassis in the locomotive will be most use full and I will also get some of the toy train opens to match the ones i?ve re painted, changed the chassis on to remove the platform on and a

Re:LGB 2012

You are right to stress QC for the Chinese products. As I have mentioned in another thread, the Chinese RhB vans are excellent to look at but poor runners mainly because the single axle truck pivot is a stud not a screw fixing, and so impossible to adjust for stiffness or lubricate in any useful way. Maybe others have found a solution to this problem? Me? I notice that Grootspoor still have some KISS RhB vans....

Drill out the stud and replace with a captive bolt with a double nut for adjustment? Not done it, just thinking of a solution.

Re:LGB 2012

yes, its a shame lgb doing a toytrain battiery infrered remotte control train in bright colours

Re:LGB 2012

Going back to Alans comment on the Harz locos of today, there are two different types of Mallets, two slightly different 060's, 6001, two versions of the later 2-10-2 and 99 222 as running now. Now as far as I know the only ones not due in plastic (as opposed to metal), yet are one mallet, the detail variant of the new 2-10-2 and 99 222 in original form.
That's without starting on the earlier locos and those that ran in from the Süd Harz lines. ;)
I did consider starting with a NQ 262 and stretching it into the Süd Harz 2-4-4-2 as there are pictures of it up the Brocken but decided too many other half done projects in the queue at present.
The idea of a rc battery set at a low price is excellent for kids to go with things like Lego and as scratchbuilding fodder for modellers.

Re:LGB 2012

Train line recon they are going to do the Karlsrude Mallet and both 0-6-0s (fiffi and pfiffi)

Re:LGB 2012

Was it Kiss that did the other mallet in brass? Still at least twice the projected price of the Trainline one and it still leaves the minor variant of the new 2-10-2 and 99 222 as it was originally and is today to cover.
There's plenty more as above if they wander outside the current HSB era. I've got the HF130c on my roster as one of the industries along the line used one and it features in a couple of books too in the DR era.
I'd also think the transporters would be a good idea using the RhB gondola converted as James has as a load.

Re:LGB 2012

I've got a pic of the Harz 130. definately copyright so cant show it here.
I PM you.

Re:LGB 2012

Yes the one they have today is quite different, the one like the LGB model wasn't on the HSB network but an industrial line near Wieda on the Süd Harz part that closed after being split by the Wall and being stranded in the west where progress made it uneconomical.
Still if you resurrect the Süd Harz like I'm doing then it's fair play I think. ;)
Maybe we ought to find the old modelling the Harz thread if it still exists in the bowels of the forum. I'll try to find some of my books.

You won't see a single dirty steam locomotive in service at the HSB... A weird move by LGB to weather this model.
Certainly, but neither will you see anything in service anywhere as clean as a model that comes straight out of the box.

Certainly not in Wetton or Gooey!

Well outside my price range I'm afraid. Now a weathered Mallet at 600 Euros (including DCC as standard of course to save production costs of different models) and I'm deffo interested.

Re:LGB 2012

Nice to see LGB/Marklin gave updated the water pre heater on top of the smoke box. Gives the loco an immediate difference to the others.

Re:LGB 2012

Nice... but your into live steam territory at that price.
