You have to whack that sort of stuff pretty hard to get a good surface bind. It looks similar to Breedon gravel, and for landscaping use, you have to use a pretty heavy rollerMy experiment with self binding gravel hasn't worked out as expected. And Mizzy doesn't like it!
So I will be taking it up this week. However, Mizzy has suggested that I could used a sheet of 1/2 inch ply that we have going spare. I shall cut it to the right size and shape, paint it, and keep it in the garage when not in use.
Meanwhile, I acquired a yellow FAU wagon body fromcasey jones snr , so I have replaced the red body so I now have a small fleet of side tipping wagons, here being shunted by Shoema No 60....

I've taken up the self binding gravel, and put down some horticultural grit in its place.I have to confess, I didn't run my line last year. Partially due to being busy, but partially due to foxes in the garden, digging around the layout and chewing wiring.
This year then, I've resolved to tidy up my line and get it running again.
One of the projects I wanted to do is make a hard standing alongside the loading siding, where I can operate my RC digger. I've used self binding gravel to do this. An aluminium angle strip has been put under the sleepers to raise the hard standing to rail head height.
I've shovelled the gravel into place, roughly tamped it down, and brushed it. I'll let it settle and bind. One bag of the gravel was wet, and I used part of a dry bag to do the right side.
I'll see how it looks next week....
