I couldn't find the manage button, but this may have worked I didn't schedule it either this time, fingers crossed https://youtube.com/shorts/ZDCNUkmpS1E?

Fair go Stewie, she's just one year old and was on her best behavior for a change. When she was younger she demolished the Missus's cactus gardens chewing them up
you might note it's all in the pool area out of her way wood ways usually. need to get a better video of it all the same.

Nice Alan , not a bad run there. Bench has a lot of potential for scenic development and more track.
Thanks Stewie, yeah I am working on that at the moment have just about finished a station loop off the main line with a couple of side branches for storing rolling stock while running.
more trees are ready to go in once I know where I'm going to put track. By the way the pool is not for swimming at the moment, we have Silver Perch and Bass in there as we aren't big on swimming now LOL.
Oh and at the start, it derailed on my DIY points as the signals man was asleep on the job and their a bit loose.

Nice, would of loved to have got a aquaponics set up here , unfortunately most fish are banned here . You can get rainbow trout fingerlings , but much red tape and very pricey for a small set up. I could of just gone 2kms down the roads and netted some small brown trout from the creek :) , but if some one busts you or dobs you in , big fines:(

Grizzmo, great films, but can I politely suggest putting some safety barriers up on the far end? It won't take much for a loco or train to topple off on the bends, with expensive results.

You mean Alan its not my track :), if it was my ,doggo would have a loco off that track in a few seconds. Smashed on the ground with him crouched beside it looking up at me to praise him on the fine job he did catching it  , plus being ready to spring into action to catch it if it has the audacity to try and get away again.

Thanks Paul, I will look into it, it had crossed my mind so until something is rigged up it will be slow speed around the bends. Maybe a strip of lexan might work and not be too obtrusive .
Any ideas on how high it would have to be anyone ?

I was wondering the exact same thing Alan, I have a few bridges to make where the drop would be 70-80cm to the rocks below. It looks to be a real balance between too low but look good , a train would just fall over it. Too high protect well and would look crappy. Will be good to hear from people who have made it already.

I have a strip of old fence wood around 2inches high, looks rubbish but better than dropping over a grands worth of loco on the path. In some other areas I have used meccano to make a sort of fence also a bit intrusive, but as both are in non scenic parts of the line I can live with them.image.jpg

Hi A Alan McLennan and grizzmo grizzmo . Bit of a joint reply here re safety fences.

The G scale track at Galston has one now since a live steam loco decided to run away and escaped over the side onto the paved area. Serious damage!

I am not at home atm so only have a few older but appropriate photos on my laptop but these may help, I will be at Galston tomorrow and try to remember to take some close ups, some measurements and details.

The plastic sheet [no sure what type] seems to be holding up well, been there a couple of years and cleans up fairly easily [about yearly].

cheers, Ian

Hi Ian, thanks for those photos, sort of what I had imagined. It had worried me when Billy was going around there, as one here is quite expensive
I'll look into something today at bunnings .

Brave man going to b#####s!
Will talk to Guy G if he is there tomorrow re where he obtained materials as he was the one who built the fence after his loco tried to fly the coop.
I think the uprights were bits of scrap stainless and the stand off pieces were offcuts from the recycled plastic we use for sleepers on the 5" gauge track out there.
I know he used a large number of s/s nuts and bolts....
cheers, Ian

I did prefer going to Masters, lol Wifey worked there and I got a discount :)
I did grab some aluminium that might just work for the brackets, but all options are still on the table err layout mmm track.

Looks like Perspex to me, quite expensive but a sheet will go a long way cut into 2-3inchbstrips. Cutting can be a bit of a task, power tools will cause it to melt. Saws generally not fine enough, I use a pull squawker and metal ruler to scribe then bend in a workmate along long lengths. Cutting around 2/3rds way through works well.

I can still hear the crunch of a Gauge 1 loco hitting the concrete floor at the Peterborough exhibition a few years ago, followed by a mass audible intake of breath, then silence, broken only by a grown man doing his best not to cry/swear in front of 100's of people
