National Garden Railway Show Peterborough 2021 - who's going??

On route on the 06.20 to Euston for the 08.30 x King's Cross, so should be there for 10 ish :)

At the show ground sitting in the car watching the queue grow, in light showers, so may wait in the car another 10 minutes :)

Hi Phil weights delivered to Casey (PhilP) at his stand.

Sorry, very few photos, as I much prefer to enjoy just wandering around and not experience the show through the camera lens

Some nice layouts, plenty of live steam and lots of inspiration.

It felt strange being inside with "people ", but it didn't feel crowded and there was plenty of space.

Very well run and stewarded. I'm now looking forward to our exhibitions later in the year

Well that was different! If it wasn't for the mask wearing it would have been lovely. Unfortunately were quite a few traders missing (understandably) so I was able to spend quite as much as I wanted. Although I did make a large purchase in the carpark beforehand. I'm sure I saw some of you lot but as my hearing doesn't agree with masks, I find it hard to introduce myself. One piece of unpleasantness was a chap on the Anglian Roads Gauge 1 layout had one of his engines do a dive onto the concrete floor, not a metal job, but plastic, with the inevitable result. Such a shame.
Some steamy pictures

Just a few snaps including a couple of 'action shots' of Casey.

Please accept my apologies for the quality of the photography. Today's show was a mix of disappointment and sorrow. I felt sorry for the organizers who took so much effort in arranging things, but from the look of the attendance I suspect it may have cost them dear - I hope any losses were minimal. The disappointment was solely down to the understandably reduced number of layouts and traders. I realise it was a difficult task, but what was there was enjoyable. The real bonus was the ability to move around easily and viewing was excellent. I'm sorry if I didn't acknowledge any of you - I found it virtually impossible to recognise anyone with a mask on. The exceptions being Casey (who had his name on the back of his jacket), JimmyB and Mrs B who appeared as I was talking to Casey and Paul M with Mrs M who I had arranged to meet beforehand. I barely touched my wallet - a book of raffle tickets, a couple of figures and a book for my grandson. Mind you I've spent enough in the last fortnight, and I came home with more money than I went out with.

Thanks Mike. My interest in 'other' shows, is what the current business term is, that of benchmarking.... no, not scribbling on the layout benchwork, but getting the 'feel' of the show, and how it
stacks up, both presentation wise, and apparent financial success.

It was nice to meet up with a few members from this forum. I found the layout of the show was excellent, plenty of space between the various layouts and traders. There was of course a little crowding around one or two of the traders stands.
I managed to pick up a few essentials by 8am, so I was then able to concentrate on our own layout.
I hope this years show has been a success.7749786D-CA38-4377-BC7C-96B1B6AD4F08.jpegB6995240-8998-43AF-856D-4FEA788915FF.jpeg147E4A1B-C725-40E4-BEAB-6664EDC02B75.jpegCE665471-E230-4B4B-8694-EF7DA8579637.jpeg7E3FA932-B407-4EE2-8927-7B75AC2A3A3B.jpeg

I really enjoyed your layout. Some "interesting" stock variations!

If this event proves anything, its that they can be run safely and with a minimum of interruption to the set up and visitor experience. Masks, a little more politeness in not getting too close to one another (never a bad thing with the dubious personal hygiene of some attendees) and not handling the trader's stock so much was about the worst of it.

I do hope the association did not go on too much of a limb with the show, but I for one really enjoyed it and it was great to leave the house for more than a shopping trip or exercise!

A good way to dip a toe back in the water; met Fezwig of this parish; didn't buy much (but didn't have much on the shopping list, either), but enjoyed catching up with friends and having a day out for the first time since, well, we all know since when.

Many thanks to those who have posted pictures of the show, certainly gives a feel of what I for one missed. Nit sure how well it will have gone fiscally, I expect that will all come out in the next 16mm today. Some of your words certainly make me feel that I made the right decision not to go, sad as I have supported and been a member of the 16mm for many many years now probably as far back as the 80’s. It is a very good group and well worth joining even though we would appear to be from a slightly different direction, there are many 45 gaugers in the Society. As for me I have always been a 45milite since I joined the 16mm Association.

Yes there's always one! The one who hogs every stand you want to look at.
I'm pretty sure this show ran at a loss, unfortunately, but as previously stated by others, it was quite pleasant to wander around without being overwhelmed by crowds.

I enjoyed the show, though agree with the above comments about attendance. However for my first real trip out in 15 months, 400 mile round trip plus hotel, was it worth it YES, it was good to be out, and for me (and Mrs B) the open spaces were much appreciated.
