New beginnings

After I replaced the plank that had become entirely bent due to a construction fault, I gave the new one a little raised edge, and put the chain fence back on.

My regular supermarket has flamingos on offer! I couldn't resist. There were peacocks too, but I opted for a second flamingo.

This one has a light in its belly, and a little solar panel on its back. So it will light up at night.

Now to find a sunny place on the layout for it.

Meanwhile, the triangle is being installed. Much still needs to be done: connecting tracks, overhead, electrical connections...

And after that - point levers, a tram stop, etc. You name it. This will take years to reach any semblance of completeness. And that's a good thing.

(Incidentally, I used "wye" before, but Jon informed me that "triangle" is the British term. I try to stick to British English, for consistency.)

Dusk, my new favourite time of day.

I can see now that the camera focused on the pile in the foreground instead of on the loco. That pile, by the way, consists of cutoffs of LGB overhead. Maybe I'll think of something creative to do with them.

Overall I'm happy with the results. Of the overhead that's in place now, I won't need to redo anything. Just a few small tweaks.

Now to get myself going again and build the still-missing bit of overhead.

Important piece of kit, made and used something similar when I put overhead in on the Ruschbahn much better than using a loco that will trash a pan before you can stop it.

Y'all are due for an update, several things have happened, while other things are about to.

To begin with, I built this roof for my little trailer, which has been faithful to me for many years while usually just standing there covered by inadequate tarps.

Said roof I covered with stonecrop. This comes in a complete package of mats that contain seeds of nine kinds of stonecrop, with a fertile layer and a water tight underlayment. Over here, it is gaining popularity for covering sheds, garages, and interestingly bus stop shelters.

To get the track across the stonecrop I devised these tripods that stand on the bottom layer. You can adjust the leg length.

And then there's this:

My steam up place. Of course the loco you see is electric and doesn't need steaming up, it's just there for demonstration purposes. I don't have any live steamers yet, but that should soon change: at the end of the month I will visit Regner in Germany, and hopefully return with something pretty. :inlove:

Replacing the plastic LGB wheels on my oldest wagons with steel Liliput wheels.

Long ago in this thread, someone suggested this change. I said I'd do it "when I get rich", which was true but also a little dismissive. Apologies.

I'm still not rich, but I can afford this and other improvements now.
