Does anyone know how we stand after Jan 1st bringing in red boxes from Europe
Who do we pay the VAT to, UK, Europe or both.
Do we pay import duty.
How long will a parcel take, 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months.
If HM highwaymen require payment, how much do DPD & the like add for collecting the payment. I have only ever paid Parcelfarce.

We haven’t been in the Common Market for years which is why I voted out of the current “club”
 
as far as i know, exports to no-EU countries are free of EU-VAT.
so, like the rest of the world you should just pay your national VAT.
(plus some customs fee, of course)
Yes, the drawback for us is that ParcelFarce, who have the contract for stuff arriving in this company where no direct courier is involved, collect the VAT and customs, and then charge a fat fee for collecting said duties.

It's better if you can get goods shipped and the shipper pays the VAT/customs, but I'm not sure how easy that is for the private individual. I did have a company who did this for us on a commercial scale, and asked them to import an Accucraft freight wagon for me on the basis that I paid the shipping cost - unfortunately the wagon was delivered to my office but no invoice ever followed ........ :think::think::think::think::think:
 
As is always the case it pays to read the fine print and the not so fine print. The current so called deal is reviewed after 4 years so we will go through all this waffle again!
 
I doubt if even Boris knows what he's agreed to, but it will inevitably mean delays and more expense for someone or everyone (other than of course, those Brexiteers who live abroad, some even in the EU)>
 
Yes i am in need for pipe fittings and steam oil for my steam engine which are only available in the Uk obviuosly.
I should have order them way in advance but despite Flu have been very busy until now.

A lot of UK produced products which are going to be sold to EU countries still have to comply with eu regulations. e.i. BMW-Mini, Jaguar Land Rover, DAF LF (Leyland Trucks) so no win there. Don't want to start a Brexit discussion, just a little reminder.

A flat fee would make small parts very expensive. Have to see.

That’s always been the situation with exports to other parts of the world; here in Australia for example vehicles must comply with Australian Design Rules (and must demonstrate that compliance), some of which have been tougher and some easier than UK/EU rules. In some cases, some electrical standards for instance, the country to be exported to may have adopted the same standards as the exporting country, or it may not. The whole compliance thing, while it can be complex, is not exactly something that exporters will find new.
 
TBH I don't think things will change too much for us mortals, we are even used to the prices increase that occurs every time a politician is involved
 
For my sins I am still VAT registered, from the days from when I used to produce a small range of hand built 1:32 slot cars. Each quarter I still fill out a VAT declaration form (I can't bare the thought of dealing with that labyrinthine edifice, the HMRC, to sort it). For some years now HMRC have been receiving VAT declarations from me that basically read - 0,0,0,0,0.0,0.0,0.0,0.0. And never a query asking, "How come" has been received. Just the odd fine for £537 when I'm forgetful, that is immediately rescinded as soon as I supply the required declaration.

When sending or receiving goods to other EU member states I could not deduct my VAT price element or ask suppliers for a rebate of this element as I could with product destined/received from ROW destinations. The quarterly VAT declaration form has (read "had" as of next march probably) a section that requires me to enter any VAT elements of my trading with EU with products destined there or being supplied but not VAT free trading for export/import. I always felt that the ability to deduct VAT on sales on ROW product was a bit of an export trading bonus, as most of my trade was. Yes, the recipient in non EU destinations would be subject to their own customs authorities but it could work in their/my favour.

Now, I wonder how the VAT declaration form will be laid out for Q1 (due 30/4/21 latest) trading period. And will we be able to ask EU domiciled traders to deduct or show their VAT (assuming they are registered in their country) pricing element to be deducted. Does this mean that HMRC and Royal Mail will be getting involved to claim their fees on every "new built" item a private individual imports from and EU state ? :think: Max

My experience of Parcel Farce from some time ago is that they are daylight robbers. Firstly, they charge for “presenting to Customs and repacking” even though many packages have clearly never been opened. Unnecessary with X-ray.
Secondly, they charge through the nose and will not deliver until it is paid.
on the other hand DPD charge a purely nominal amount for the same service and only bill after they deliver. They are also quicker!

It said: “For items under £135 (with the exception of gifts), VAT will be collected directly when they buy the goods online. For goods with a value over £135 (and gifts over £39), Royal Mail may collect the VAT and customs duties from the customer prior to delivery. These charges are applied on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs.”

Along with this:

Holidaymakers or online shoppers who buy items from the EU that are valued at more than £390 will have to pay customs duties, the government has revealed.

So make of this what you will, but it would seem that purchases under £135 should sale through, and if you are lucky duty free :)

Talk of custom fees might be a moot point at the moment. I ordered some stuff from modell-land.de last night and got this in an email this morning:
"unfortunately shipping to the UK is currently not possible with DHL. We have refunded your order via PayPal."
I assume this is a temporary situation and that DHL have not severed ties with the UK!
UPDATE: Don't panic! I think this is because my order contained some liquid smoke oil, so they cancelled the whole order.
UPDATE: now you can panic, I just tried to reorder my stuff without the liquid, and modell-land are not shipping to UK addresses at the moment. "We currently do not offer shipping for this address."
