Out of the common market

I tried to follow the Brexit thing but gave up because I couldn't understand it.
I donr6 think you're alone in that. In fact I'll be immensely surprised if anyone understands what's going on, or what's gone on or what will happen or not. Although I think everyone understands, it ain't gonna be cheap

It is what it is, and we are going to have to live with it, like it or not :)

export, import and transport either have no rules, or rules nobody can understand.

i'm sitting in the middle of nowhere in southamerica and learned one rule: the farther away from me the seller is located, the quicker and the cheaper are customs and transport costs.
from pasidump, who lives in india, or somewhere near to it, i got couplers in less than a week. with about 26% additional costs.
from netherlands or germany in general things need arount two to three weeks and 30 to 35% additional costs.
from the US of A an average three to six weeks and fifty to sixty % of additional costs.

my impression is, that they all send goods in the wrong direction, so that they go the longest possible way around the globe.

So probably no good for a large US outline diesel, converted to RC then? :(

A year or two back I purchased a couple of Aristo Diesels from the late John Steer RIP. Well packed they were and I had to go to the Sorting Office to collect them. An extra 25 euro was charged but at least I had them! Don't think it would work now because there is no collecting from the Post Office or its' distribution network. Flu has ruined our lives (we are the lucky ones).

Flu has certainly interfered with international freight over the past weeks, but as the guy from the Channel Tunnel operator pointed out, it may just give them the necessary breathing space to incorporate the inevitably late changes that the Brexit agreement requires.

I don't pretend to understand it, haven't read it and am entirely reliant on the media for information about it, so I appreciate that the information that I've digested also needs a pinch of salt.

The biggest issue will be the new paperwork, and that, in itself will add a cost, but not a massive one. What I have noticed is that many prices of all sorts of goods have increased over the last six months, and that the increase has very little to do with Brexit but is the result of various Flu related problems, as well as all those containers falling off ships.

Never forget the standard rule of investment in times of uncertainty - the same advice that auctioneers give, which is to sit on your hands ........................... and wait.

That's Rhino's advice for a happy noo year :):):):):)

This year, has seen an exponential rise in 'online' and remote purchasing..

Anything, from the Supermarkets, to Amazon, and the other online players have had to run to keep up..

This has meant all the delivery services, have been running at capacity for most of the year.
Lockdown 2 (in the UK) plus Christmas, pushed things over the edge.
There will be a new peak (in parcels) as all the unwanted / wrong size stuff goes back.
Then we will have the sales, as well as effectively being locked down again.

I foresee a period of time when delivery (of all types) will be quite erratic.

Still, it will all be over by Easter, when we come out of Tier 97.
That is Easter 2032, by the way. :D

Talk of custom fees might be a moot point at the moment. I ordered some stuff from modell-land.de last night and got this in an email this morning:
"unfortunately shipping to the UK is currently not possible with DHL. We have refunded your order via PayPal."
I assume this is a temporary situation and that DHL have not severed ties with the UK!
UPDATE: Don't panic! I think this is because my order contained some liquid smoke oil, so they cancelled the whole order.
UPDATE: now you can panic, I just tried to reorder my stuff without the liquid, and modell-land are not shipping to UK addresses at the moment. "We currently do not offer shipping for this address."
MBS-Lippe have put a statement on their website saying they are not exporting to the UK until the 15th of Jan after which prices will be net Although they do say that until full clarification things may change

That is useful. I raised this topic as I had a reservation with Lippe for a Christmas present (not for me). Latest LGB date was December. I now wonder if I will ever get it.

Have we left yet? Will we notice any difference except in postage when we do? Will we stop hearing about it, probably not? Ah well we are where we are like it or not. Me I am pretty indifferent about the complete thing just now.

I know just how you feel. Like my school days, pummelled on all sides by boring facts and figures, day after day, by people who didn't really care as long as they were paid, until the day came and I thought, do I really care?

Well, all I can say is that at least one German MEP rather envies us Brits and considers us as being the lucky ones.

Well he could always do a Nigel and start campaigning for Gexit! You heard that word here first y the way?

Unfortunately the word was a great source of hilarity to No2 Child whilst visiting Germany a couple of years ago
In our Commonwealth War Grave, we have a number of German graves, and we read the names of the German war dead after the names of the Commonwealth war dead.

There was one German serviceman with the surname Faath - I was pretty sure how it would be pronounced in German, but I checked with the German Embassy in London, and then tried to practice saying it in various ways so as to reduce the emphasis........... in order to preserve the dignity of Remembrance.
