Out of the common market

One company I dealt with in the USA, would remove their tax, then add ours, so that on arriving in the UK they were UK tax paid, and no post office or other courier charges.

I have just bough something an Amazon, from the USA, and apparently this should arrive UK tax paid :)
The Amazon item has arrived (delivered via Hermes), not stopped at customs and no additional charges as it is UK Tax paid. I appreciate Amazon is a large (very large) company, but what is stopping other counties outside of Great Britain doing this :)

PS: The good news?: Well, as you know, Amazon don't actually make G gauge products. Neither do they add any value to the supply of these products, which makes them irrelevant, don't you think?: Exactly; so, save yourself some time, money and a lot of hassle and go straight to the appropriate retailer.

Yep, would never consider buying G Gauge from Amazon itself, but then there are some "Market Place" traders on Amazon that are G Gauge retailers, and if you are a Prime members it can work out cheaper with "free" postage

PPS: And as for "returns are easy", that's another farce that will have to wait (and wait) for another day, week, month, ... actually, as Amazon simply refuse to provide any assistance, it really is easier to keep the item.

Only had one slight issue with a return, and it was an item refused on the doorstep, use the chat line, and I had the refund notification within minutes and the money in my account the next day.

I have been an Amazon customer for over 15 years, and checking my account apparently I have had 67 free deliveries in the last 12 months, so Amazon is well used by me.

Have to say my experience with Amazon just fine with some 40 transactions since lockdown. Never used them prior to that and was on the point of not doing so again till they reversed their decision about credit cards in the recent weeks. As for returns, just one and that worked perfectly so far as Amazon was concerned. But not so good at the initial corner shop that could/should have taken it, gave up on them and went to a Launderette of all places. They sorted it with some kindly help no problem.

I guess you can only speak as you find. I usually compare prices between eBay and Amazon, with often the same sellers offering their goods on both. We subscribe to Amazon Prime for free delivery, so that can often work out cheaper and quicker delivery than eBay. My wife is a big user of Amazon and we have never experienced any problems with returns. We returned some paper napkins last week, as they were not quite what we expected, money refunded same day.

Not wishing to get into personalities, it's something I would not normally comment on, but my personal perception is that it is no great loss. I don't think he was never comfortable on this Forum.

I have bought all sorts of things from Amazon and had no problems. However I experienced a problem last December (not Amazon's fault) when I purchased some Felix Cat Food pouches for a direct delivery from the UK to me. I always track progress if I can and, on the day before the order was due to be delivered, I got a message saying my order had been returned! It took a lot of enquiries to find out why it had been sent back (there was I thinking was it a B word problem). After a day or two I finally got the answer off Amazon by email - the order (pouches) had been damaged. Having paid with PayPal, it took a day or two to get the money back, but there was no chance of a replacement order!!!

I never thought about the carrier playing football with parts of his consignment!

I have an account with Amazon Germany as well as Amazon UK, which has been handy to obtain odd things like track power clamps and bits for the garden, which don't appear on the UK site. Maybe I pay a tad extra by letting Amazon handle the paperwork and exchange but it saves a lot of hassle and you can't fault Amazon's logistic skills. Just don't get me started on why we have to endure this self-inflicted nonsense!

I use Amazon all the time, for personal and business stuff, and have (so far, touch wood...) never had a problem that hasn't been resolved quickly and efficiently. Sure, there have been a few faulty items, damaged packages etc over the years, but in every case they were replaced or otherwise sorted immediately and with no hassles. Last one was a boardgame that was missing one set of playing pieces (manufacturer's fault, not Amazon's), free returns label sent by email, new replacement game dispatched to me even before my returned parcel had been dropped off and scanned at the local Herpes pickup point.
