Ox Mountain Railway

I'm hoping the weather gets a little warmer soon - I have so much to do. I'm still managing to run a train per day so I suppose that's something.

Friday's train was a Coal Creek Lumber Co.'s Porter - an early Bachmann one - plus a couple of flats (tidied up Train/Newquida). I think the latter are a very good base for all sorts of bashes!

The headlight works intermittently - having suffered transportation along the highways, byways, and boreens (defying description as roads).

And, of course, there are two individuals who share my interest - one of them, Mae, is always wanting to know what I'm doing!

Yesterday, I was hoping to run one of my R/C BH's but, despite efforts to find six decent D cells (couldn't find the 7.2v pack which also will go in the boiler and only have four D rechargeables), It only managed one circuit before I got the camera out.

So it was out with excellent loco and some stock cars pictured below....

Good to see you had a bit of sunshine yesterday, Mick.

The cats no doubt think all this daily running of trains is just for their enjoyment!

I think we run a guest house for them! I need to brush up on my serving skills - if I don't give her what she wants then I get thinly veiled threats - like jumping up on the dresser and touching the crockery on display! Plus I act as the night porter!

Still running a train every day. Sunday I tried one of the R/C BH's again after buying some new D cells.

I think the the RC is done for as it won't shut off in mid-position (or reverse). Anybody got a spare 49 wotsit?

And without stock (it kept uncoupling - Aristo to Bachmann probs)

The edges of thet cat look a bit too clean - think it's been Photoshopped. Good piccy though:)

Yesterday's train was very short (couldn't find the rest of the rolling stock. Keystone loco - absolute bling (don't do bling - and this will be toned down eventually). Coach kept uncoupling - probably down to Bachmann's typical droopy couplings - it isn't just locos that need a service!

Personally, I think the brand is aptly named (as in Keystone Cops).

With a forecast of rain, but less wind - and slightly warmer - I chanced my arm and mixed some mortar. The concrete blocks are bedded in. If it hadn't rained, the new abutment would have been rendered too!

15.02.17 - newly laid (2).JPG The concrete blocks to the right are just a temporary packing until I get around to replacing a coupe of wooden support legs (honest guv).

I also skimmed over the top to create a track bed and pushed the ballast in to give it a key. Points and track re-installed and a little more ballast spread..
15.02.17 - newly laid (3).JPG The ballast is (water) pipe bedding - I scrounged a few hundredweights back in 2014! Just hope the mortar has hardened off overnight!

Whilst taking the above photos of work done earlier, I gave my railtruck a good run round (it can be seen in those photos awaiting my attention).

I hadn't given it any track time for a year or two but there were no problems - either with pick-up or the tiny front truck wheens..

The weeds are really growing fast (mainly Darned 'de lions'), but other, wanted, plants are also showing their blooms - the miniature daffys with their larger cousins following on a little later this week ..

... and a Quince Japonica elsewhere ....

Only trouble is, the humble Bumble is nowhere to be seen at this time of year! At least the plum trees haven't flowered yet!

Following the moderately poor operation of my unmolested R/C BH,
I transferred the batteries to my reliveried version and got better results..

However, the fault lies with the transmitter and I am on the lookout for a replacment (49Mh)..

I have used the two locos in the past for my trailer layout in case of track power failure. Obviously, I can run the two simultaneously in the garden - which is useful sometimes.

Finally gobbed up the new bridge abutment and, also repaired (I hope) a damaged section of parapet walling on the viaduct...

For some reason, the wall had broken off at the reinforcing metal. Had to shutter it to do the job..

and the bridge abutment blathered with compo...

Also, whilst taking pictures of the work, I brought out the Gandy Dancer.....

Also managed to strengthen some support legs under the depot. So now I can sit down and put my feet up for now.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Can't beat masonry.

Wot, no supervisors?

Either they are bored with such activity - nothing moving to investigate - or the kitchen fire was more attractive anyway...

He was out when I was doing the work. Now they are both sleeping - just wish I could just get even half the hours they sleep:(

After all that good work, you deserve a rest so up with the feet, pour the tea (or something stronger) and just watch the trains (and cats).
