Trams: Is There Much Tramway Interest On Here??

I fear that younger people only know "Jazzed up buses" as trolleys. This is what I get when I type in the word "trolley" on Google. Then I went to the on-line Websters Dictionary and got this;
Definition of trolley
plural
trolleys
also
trollies

  1. 1dial English : a cart of any of various kinds
  2. 2a : a device that carries electric current from an overhead wire to an electrically driven vehicleb : a streetcar powered electrically through a trolley —called also trolley car
  3. 3: a wheeled carriage running on an overhead rail or track
  4. 4chiefly British : a cart or wheeled stand used for conveying something (as food or books)

Could be worse, in certain English dialects it refers to male undergarments :devil::devil::devil::devil:

Ah, the jock strap.....:lipssealed:.....When I was in 7th grade and now in junior high school, gym was part of the curriculum. The gym teacher told us that as part of our clothing for gym class, we had to have a jock strap. I had no clue what a jock strap was, so I went home and asked my mother. She smiled and told me to ask my father.

No, not a jock strap. Trollies is a colloquial expression that refers to a pair of underpants, which I believe you Americans refer to as shorts. I cannot help with the derivation of the expression.

Ah, the proverbial similarities of our different language.....LOL

Also an expression for inebriated.

......and back to proper trams.... seen in Berlin earlier this year:

So if you're not careful, you can get trollied, lose your trollies, but struggle to find a real trolley to take you home :devil::devil::devil::devil::devil::devil::devil:

The one trolley you do not want to end up on is one in A&E (ER for our US cousins)

that'd be a gurney over there, no problem :p:p:p:p:p

BTW we've almost wrecked a fairly sensible thread that was started by a guy who has since changed direction.

I can't remember him changing direction before ... :think::think::think::think::think::think: ;);)

Well - nine pages, what do you expect!

San Francisco a few years ago: One of these is not like the other!

These fake trams are everywhere in the US, there's probably more fake trams than real ones!

I find those fakes so offensive to the senses, that I refuse to ride on them, or even photograph them.
That is a California line car, by the way.

Only been to Lisbon once - back in 1990 - and then only spent one full day there.
They were still running some clerestory roofed bogie cars then....
