What happened at your workbench today?

So..........

How far have you got?
PhilP
About as far as drilling a hole in the wrong place.

Well, it was in the right place until I fixed the end beam upside down, back to front, inside out :worried::worried:

I shall re-drill the hole when the frame is together and the right way up :nerd::nerd:

What happened at your workbench today - absolutely nothing, narda, hehaw.

What I have done though is build myself a workbench, even though only 75% of it is topped just now, I can say I have a workbench and I am no longer restricted to using the surface area of my niece's old dresser, this may not seem like much to some, but this is a huge step forward for me .

Now I just need to sort out everything that has been simply stored, packed, on to a shelf.

My continuing work on an Austrian U2 being converted as a former Harz loco continues. Lots of hacking and bravery in this one.

Why I don't know but I've always had a soft spot for these locos, very nice.

I saw a video on YouTube using humidifier components as a smoke generator, liked the look of that so ordered a couple of sets to experiment with.

Here’s what you get, circuit board, atomiser and wick - one of the packs had a plastic mounting as well but not the other !

BD1E8852-7E5E-4931-BF3B-6895FD12DD44.jpeg

Fitting it into the stack on my shay using the spark arrestor as the reservoir, runs for about ten minuites on that. I now have to wire it into the loco, I’m thinking diode bridge and 5v regulator so it only runs when the loco moves but need to work out how to bypass the switch on the circuit board which needs to be booted every time power comes on.

Here’s a picture of it running, much more ‘steam’ than a conventional smoke unit and no aroma ! Looks promising so far.

Very interesting, do you know how much power it consumes, considering if it is viable for battery power.

Made some progress last night, This board will go inside the boiler and be connected to the track power wiring, Consists of a bridge rectifier to allow for forward and backward running, a voltage regulator set to 5v and the atomiser control board with the switch by passed. There's none of the original wiring in this modified Bachmann Shay, if there was I could pick up the 5v supply from that.
Just need to fit this in the boiler and get the wires to the stack hidden and I think it's done.
Nice colour effect from the blue led's on the boards !

Today has been "Finishing off all those buildings you printed and left lying around the dining room"..

First up is this little signal cabin - a blow up of an OO design. It contains the electronics for my new radio controlled points. Essentially a 4 way servo controller and a radio control module. Simply press the button on the remote to toggle the point position. Signals to follow.

Also visible in this picture a small tram shelter. Painted to match my LCC tram, although this style of shelter was never used around London to my knowledge.

Not much paper left from the looks of things. The hinges are functional, the toilet not so much. No doubt it will attract just as many spiders as the real thing though!
