What happened at your workbench today?

A new workbench requires a few new tools. Proops the hobby tools specialists are a ten minute drive away from me. I rang them this morning and arranged to pick up a few tools from them. The tools were all picked and packaged and left in the foyer for me to collect:-

I had no idea about Proops, looks like a great resource. Very close to my parents, I'll have to go and have a look at a suitable time. Thanks for pointing it out Paul.

Ricky, the shop at Proops is closed to the public. You can however ring them and they will pick the items and place them in the foyer for you to pick up. They have an excellent website.

What are all these, Casey? Maybe it's just me, but apart from the clamps I don't recognize them. Those at the right look like dentists' tools to me!

Jasper, they are indeed dentists’ tools. I use them for uncoupling rolling stock. There is also a magnifying glass with case, a pair of mini sash clamps and the vertical cutter.
Over the years I have used the dental tools to uncouple LGB style couplings, Knuckle head coupling of various makes, link and pin couplings of various makes and my favourites three link couplings.

Spent most of the morning and part of this afternoon trying to investigate a couple of my Battery Locomotives that failed a couple of weeks ago when I was using them. The 25Tonner had one wire loose but did not stop it working when pulled apart! Offending wire put back then some other cosmetic damage repaired and all was well. Whilst I was doing it I moved the Fuse to a more accessible place. The other loco appeared to be much the same no problem when pulled apart. I suspect that the Batteries in thentx on both had become somewhat dislodged. However the 2-10-2 was to have the fuses moved which I forgot over lunch but in has been orientated to go the other way as I want all my Locomotives to be Chimney First x my Gernrode Terminus cos that is how they are on the real thing. Totally contrary to LGB and others standards, but makes life much easier for visiting operators.

An update from post 184.....

repairing the walkway for the tank top.

The frame made up ok, but then it was put to one side...and unfortunately got a bit damaged...
It was repairable, so I carried on...
drilling pilot holes and melted in parts cut from staples

once painted and varnished it looks so so....

but once it's back on the tank wagon....it should be blend in

I have seen that modelland de sell the part for a few euros.....plus a bundle of shipping charges

One down one to still go through the build process. That was a lot of work. Learned a lot that will be incorporated into the 2nd one. Just need to make the underslung vacuum brake cylinders, tank and some brake rigging for this one. Couplers and vacuum pipes from Swift 16, the hooks and eyes for the safety chains and brake shoes are Cambrian Models items. Both companies providing a swift and reliable service in the current challenging conditions.. As have Hobbies, Cornwall Models and Halfords where I source most of my materials. Max

Literally every detail is improvised on the go. It doesn't get any more freelance than this, I think.

Another tidy up of the workbench after completing a couple more projects, this time I decided to give it a clean as well. Now I am likely to need sunglasses at that time of the day whenthe sun shines in.

Getting tricky to pull out the draws for small parts now. This is a dumping ground that is constantly being abused and used. Must find a way to resolve that, but it is handy to put parts on when doing a job. Trouble is when there is so much left over junk then those parts take some finding.

Got side tracked from my sawmill build. I started building a garage with a workshop in the back. This is my first attempt at building using framing. IMG_20200605_170035.jpgIMG_20200605_165941.jpgIMG_20200605_170214.jpgIMG_20200605_170000.jpg
