What happened at your workbench today?

Next up must be that shelf where all manner of bits and bobs just get dumped. Getting tricky to pull out the draws for small parts now. This is a dumping ground that is constantly being abused and used. Must find a way to resolve that
How about cutting it lengthwise diagonally, the shape of a railway embankment. That way you can't dump stuff there anymore.

So, having added Cambrian Models brake shoes/arms I thought I really need to put in the rest of the carrige's braking hardware. Semi scratch built, brake cylinder and its actuator arm is a GRS L&B item. I dare say a few experts out there will correct me on its layout Max

In inherited most of my Signals from Andy Rush, at some stage on this forum I have detailed all of them and what they do. These were laboriously made from scratch by Andy using sundry parts. The Arms though in this case his were all Disks were made from sundry Pill Bottle Tops. Now these have served well over the near 15 years that they have been outside, but they were clearly not made to take UV light for that period of time as the pic below shows.

Fortunately the Shunt Signal with the yellow cross was made out of one of those circles that you have to press out of a plug back to allow fitting of wires so is in good shape except perhaps for a repaint. Whilst sorting through a box of Metal that I inherited some years back I found some stamped Brass Circles, though a little smaller than the original Disks they were sufficiently large enough to be used as replacement ones. Thus below we can see the 8 disks after painting, they were first given a coat of etch primer, then white undercoat masked for red oxide undercoat for the red area’s which were hand splashed a suitable Red. Good job I tidied up that shelf! I have 6 more ready now should any of the others on the line go UV up.

Below you can see the signals back in place, doh I have repainted the Shunt Disk and done the cross arm white instead if yellow! Originally it was a piece of Yellow Tape. Oh well out with the pot of yellow.

I am one of those guys that hates chucking anything out and as these were from Andy I decided to put the old Disks in the S&T junk yard at Harzegerode. This area is a regular dumping ground for all sorts of things that may get used of a scenic and S&T nature. That white drum irks does it not?

So that has been attended to as well with some scribing and hack saw dragging to better represent a wooden construction. A spray of Halfords Rattle Can Black Undercoat and a dry dab of Matt Grey from a piece of foam has finished the transformation to an item that now does not shout at you.

For those of you are 16 mm Association members you will have seen Gareth Jones' "Servicing Caddy", and it seem to fit the bill for my needs, not built exactly to his drawing, but to meet my needs:

Hm Jimmy is getting serious about Live Steam I see!

My workbench has been busy marking out, cutting and scribing 3mm Foamboard. Note that back shelf is getting junked up again, it even has a Gauge 1 Terrier sat on it, you can just make out the buffers at the left.

Well if that Terrier is junk, chuck southwards, I'll do my best to catch it!

I'm planning something similar, just need to be able to nick some suitable wood. I hope Mr Jones doesn't mind his ideas being nicked!

Thank you, thank you!!!! :D:wasntme:

My ‘room’ is also the dump for all stuff family related that no one wants to throw away, but doesn’t know what to do with it...
Sounds like my shed,

But I did a little repair indoors - there comes a time in the life of the Accucraft brass models when the glue that they use to hold the window glass in gets like the rest if us, old and knackered, and the glass falls in, often with the aid of an errant thumb.

So I've been sticking a couple of windows back in. While tac prefers the Bachmann plastic version due to its detailed interior, I still think the Accy brass caboose is a thing of beauty :inlove:

The Thorley Minatures signal box is nearly complete. Just some touching up, adding some details (block instruments, wall clock, signal man’s newspaper!), a spray or three of varnish and then final gluing of windows etc., and she’s ready to be installed on the line. Solar powered from and adapted garden light. Signal box details from the late lamented Back2Bay6.

Indeed it is, anything made out of metal tends to stand head and shoulders above a plastic midel.
