What happened at your workbench today?

That Looks like a ashtray off a class 47 loco Jon :)
Hm I wonder ifvthey got a job lot to make these things with, plenty of Duffs withdrawn for cutting and presumably 2 on each loco.

Todays "Modelling while on a 2 hour conference call that could have been an email" is this cute little guards van. The main part of the body is 3D printed, but I am never happy with the roofs when printed, so I usually use either Plasticard or wooden planking. This one is planked, along with filling in a few gaps under the eaves and making a door and frame. The interior will be left white, while the rest will be stained a dark brown, probably with a grey or black roof.

Wow, what is that?? I got into G Scale because my eyesight is steadily degenerating. Not sure that would ever have been within my abilities...
That is a 2mm square fancy regulator chip.. Six connections, plus a big blob in the middle, to get rid of the heat...
And it had failed, so replaced with something you have a chance of finding, when you drop it on the floor!
:nerd::nerd:

I have just started to assemble the new MOW. Booble car. Battery power in the engine compartment. View attachment 280001View attachment 280002View attachment 280003
Probably more stable than when on the road.

I had one as a yoof - you had to get the LHD version so that the driver's weight counterbalanced the engine :nod:

I had a bit of an issue on some black ice - at 17 you're not really prepared for the concept - and ended up parked between a small tree and a wall. The sun roof was a very useful escape hatch :cool::cool:. I discovered the facts of black ice when I jumped down from the roof and nearly when base over apex on the pavement :mask:

Over the past few months I’ve been thinking about a guards van for the branch line stock. After much deliberation I decided to marry up an LGB Feldbahn wagon chassis to a ModelEarth 7/8ths guards van body. Although the Van body is 7/8ths it is extremely small and fitted the LGB chassis extremely well.

I was recently watching a guy on YT pull and iPhone to bits popping off various boards with some kind of hear device (certainly not a soldering iron) cleaning up the solder and putting a replacement back in. All through an ElectricvMicro Scope. When you look at some of the small (teeny weeny) things people make it makes you wonder.

Talking of splashing on the paint, I've had a busy week 3d printing and painting these wagons. Just need to repair the printer this weekend and finish off the undercarriage...

This is hardly worthy of this thread but I received a package from Switzerland today. Amazingly it only took 10 days! The package contained among a few other things some parts I've been looking for ever since I got my LGB 24450 RhB Ge 2/4. Covers for the pantograph "operating mechanism". I've seen these on the baby croc prototypes and wanted some to put on my Ge 6/6 Crocs.

Pan Mech Cover - 1.jpeg

I could not find a LGB part number and it is not shown on the exploded parts diagram for the 22450. While window shopping the www.train.li website (I was drooling over the Post Bus) I ran across these:

Pan Mech Cover - 1 (1).jpeg

They're not cheap at 13.40 ChF (no VAT for shipment to the States) but are painted brass and I was expecting plastic. The covers snap in place.

They are actually hard to find on the site. Here is a more direct link: Onlineshop LGB® Ersatzteile, Achsen, Zubehör Scroll to the bottom.

That's where I start worrying, I spend ages making something with great care, then attack it with paint, knowing I false move will ruin everything, anyone else have the same issue?
I often think that the painting is where I'm most likely to let myself down, I've made plenty of mistakes, but I don't think anything has ever been ruined beyond recovery :)

I've just finished kitbashing a pull-push driving coach in OO. I spent a fair amount of time building it and reading up on the prototypes, then managed to paint it completely the wrong colour! Very annoying, in that I had to rub down the finished top coat, buy different paint and then wait all over again for it to stop raining, but recoverable :)

Doh!

Basic structure of hopper bodies assembled

As you can observe, some of the joints required filling with putty

I decided this trio would be "older" and shallower than the two I did last year (which also need me to complete the strapping before I paint them :p. I have trouble with fiddly bits.)

The Snailbeach District Railways also had at least two depth variants, so I'm on safe ground there.
Once again, all credit to GE-Rik for the design and dimensions.

I’ve had a very constructive day today. I’ve glued and screwed together three ModelTown buildings, The Engine Shed, Station Masters House, Porters/Waiting Room. They will get painted when the weather improves:-
