What is / Was your favourite G Scale loco?

I have to agree having seen it in the flesh, I was always surprised that Lehmann never produced it, but i suppose it won't happen now!

I think approximately half the population of the globe have a 'dingler'.....
I'll own up first...................

hat, coat......door

Someone had to, I suppose, and it might as well have been you, Mike! ;)

Ah, but how many people have two, one black and one green....? :o

There have been some great locos posted in this thread.

I love the good old LGB 2095 and mine has done a lot of mileage in the 20 odd years that I have had it.

A Frank S type loco would be nice, a solid looking loco. Nothing fancy -Plain black will do, one day, perhaps?

I have also hankered after the LGB/Aster Garratt, as it seems many others do. Do they ever come up for sale? I think they were a very limited edition made some years ago? Although they are similar to the NG16s, I think that the model was based on a NG13? Either way if ever I won the lottery, one would be esential to keep my kit-built GRS K1 company.

I have a Bachmann Brassworks Double Fairlie which is pretty nice, but I think my favourite loco still has to be the LGB Steeple Cab. I love the quirkiness, the action of the pantograph on the wire and the sheer ruggedness of it. I have several that I run and run and run......

Don't really like to admit it, but I've only got a tiny Dingler!

Yep, got the german Krok and Mallet in N (both Arnold models) in the collection, plus a couple of swiss Kroks (Minitrix and Arnold).

Can't make up my mind about the Kato Allegra - I think it's the obvious scale/gauge discrepancy/compromise which puts me off getting a set.

I was the same re the Allegra etc at first ( I Have some Ge 4/4llls as well and the coaches) I know in theory the track should be 6.5 and not 9mm, but I sort of apply rule 8 and I am really not too concerned, when you consider the Japanese Kato N gauge range which is vast, some items are standard Gauge and some metre or is it 3' gauge. I have only ever had 1 Kato loco which did not perform well in over 20+ years that was a USA outline FEF 4-8-4 which apparently came from the 1st batch which was faulty, quickly withdrawn and corrected.

My main objective is to be able to create a layout depicting the RhB using items that perform impeccably (which Kato do) I beleive that there are other RhB items in the pipeline.

If you do ever look at buying any check out www.traintrax.co.uk a seller of Kato and nothing else! his prices are excellent and 2 or 3 times a year he has a 10% off everything promotion, the Allegras cost me £110 each! Current UK RRP ( Gaugemaster) £145. They are reveiwed in the OCT Continental Modeller

I have been tempted by that 0-8-8-0 mallet, also fancied a 9F class in O gauge too.

I quite like these too

I'm really pleased that it still runs is still providing pleasure. Isn't there a space problem with chipping these?

I got over the space problems as follows:-

1 Massoth Sound Chip and Speeker putting a Sheet Covered Them on the Roof.

2 LGB Chip in the Chassis and the Speeker in the Driver Cab hidden by a Plasticard Box.

Hi James,
New to the Furum!
The lgb/aster Garratts do come up for sale! But for a price! Approx 2500+. We share the same modelling interest! I have a couple of the asters and a K1!

Regards Paul

The Aster Garratts are great locos. A couple have been run at mine - you need a big layout to do them justice.

There was Garret on eBay this week--it seems to be gone now. As I recall, the asking was just under 4k U.S. They're really a lovely engine--though my favorite will probably always be my first LGB loco, a European Mallet
