The decision is in. Going for a double span, trial fit with track at the weekend.

Then the start of the new wall footings, and the temporary removal of the bridge.

Love it.

Keep up the great work

So after the casting of a "socket" for the central bridge pier, the building up of the new wall, the bridge is now sort of in. Pending the final alignment.

Track laid, and check rails added.

Building works have already been "approved".....

.......building inspector was spotted, making away from the site.

Something which is not evident in those photos is the curve to the bridge caused a reverse kink, and skewed the first bridge straight.

So it had to be sorted, as well as trying a new piece of track, Bachman straight, to see how it bends, and fits, as well as removing its standard gauge sleepers, and in the process removing a rail joint.

Comming along nicely gorden

Concrete sleepers!

Very swish....

Very nice looking run being created here. Lots of places for the pup to explore Gordon. I wonder who does those Concrete Sleepers? Might have been mentioned by someone in the past but memory well......

I have mentioned them in the past, but no harm in doing so again.

German import from....

http://www.modell-werkstatt.de/gleissystem/gleiszubehoer/50-fertigschwellen-meterspur-beton-45mm.htm

20 euros for pack of 50, plus the postage etc., I bought 5 packs a couple of years back, also makes the "Y" shaped ones, as used by Stockers.

Aha thought that someone had mentioned the Concrete ones. Interesting that you also mention the Y ones. I took a picture of some out of the Track on my trip this April. I had convinced myself that they were upturned recycled Rail. Not a bit of it, they are made of RSJ's, well that is what they look like to me. The cuts must be made so that there is some cost saving of Material. Joins look to be Welded Bar and Plate. Not sure that there will be short term cost savings in these, but going forward they must save on Maintenance of Wood Sleepers. Plus I reckon once ballasted they will hold in very securely, with stonking great 2-10-2's hammering the Track all the time a big consideration.

Extending onwards, slowly...

More wall built and track bed laid, 30ft more than last year, but as no track was laid last year, I am ahead.

P1020204.JPG

Going to make it look as if the line is running though a shallow cutting to reach the bridge. Hence the small stone edges, which will help to retain the loose ballast, when I figure out what I use.
Not sure if it will have the desired visual effect, but I can trim the stones flush later, if it doesn't work

Next section will be a junction, where that half bag of sand is sitting. A Piko curved point and a couple of LGB R3 points. A passing loop and a dive under meandering loop as well, it's sort of a plan, well my minds eye can see it.

Looks as if I will have to invest in some concrete blocks to maintain the level back to the other end of the station area, (RH end of the wall in the first pic.) as I an running short of stone, so will need to conserve it for facing..

Yesterday saw a further push and the start of the dive under junction and passing loop, with the laying of a certain curved point, recently acquired.

Under the approving eye of the "Building Inspector"

P1020210.JPG

One of the slabs has dropped slightly, but it only a couple of mm. more worrying was it had not stuck to the cement, first one in a while, but two at once was a but worrying.
So out came the emergency repair "glue" and all is well...

P1020211.JPG

...providing you don't look on the underside, its a bit like that saying about a swimming Swan, above all is graceful, whilst the underside all hell is breaking out...

...whilst the photograph makes it look bad, trust me it's worse in reality.o_O

Looking good!

Can I just offer a little comment about non-sticking slabs (or other relatively non-porous building materials?). If you wet the slab first, it will create more suction/adhesion for the mortar as it will stop it drying out too quickly.

Agreed Mick.

Took that precaution, and even the old couple of drops of washing up liquid in the mix as well, ( Don't tell Swmbo, hang on forget that, she doesn't do the dishes.) must have been a dodgy mix.
Anyway its all good, PVC pipe solvent saves the day again, no doubt when need it for pipes, I will have none left.

Raised track bed problems aside...

Yesterday saw the ordering of a load of breeze blocks for the next section, bought a full pallet cheaper than the actual amount I need, less is more, in this case cost wise, so I will have some spare.

So at a bit of a loose end, decided to start the other wall for the lawnmower bridge.

P1020217.JPG

As well at setting the bridge abutment footing on the existing wall.

P1020216.JPG

Removed the "shuttering" last night and, it will do. Also started to back fill in the other "Flower Bed" section.

Love to see heavy works in progress. Hope both ends join up OK with no discernable difference in height!

Keep it up Gorden...looking forward to seeing trains running

Jon

So do I, up to now it's level, well ish, so start at the other end will allow a longer distance to sort out any problem.

Mike

Hope to get circle done this year, well its not exactly a circle, more harp shape, it will not be pretty, ( Landscaping will tidy it up I hope.) but functional.

The other loops will be for next year, but will see how things pan out.
