Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB

Since your section has quite a slope you can use the stones as fill, against which you could level it. Or incorporate it into your line's landscape. The possibilities are endless and you have got the space.

As reported elsewhere, Eighton Bahn Towers took deliver of its first "New" loco over the recent festivities.

P1000899 (900 x 675).jpg

P1000900 (900 x 600).jpg

Took a pan European search to find a new unused example of 28434 which was produced in 2011.

Plus a video as will, if it works.

nice, very nice matey

First outside running session of 2015, mainly in order to test new loco clearances.

There is the inside or outside the shed door it depends on which side you look at it from, to sort either by chisel or fishing line, if I still have some.

P1000910 (900 x 675).jpg

Then there was another unexpected one, shorter loco, than the Crok, but too close to the wall on No. 5 siding.

P1000912 (900 x 675).jpg

So sidings 3-5 and the prog track came out, and repositioned.

All in all although unexpected, its been a productive day.

Any excuse is good enough to go testing :D

i think that green electric loco needs to come here gorden

The green electric is indeed a handsome loco :D :D

Gordie, could you install a short length of false catenary to make the pantograph dip through the opening?

The response to the comments is as follows :-

Going to be a staggered opening between now and then, whenever then is. But its taken almost ten years to get to now.

Testing is good. ripping up track and relaying it isn't

We aim to please, but will probably disappoint.

Err No!!!, you'll keep it.

Watch this space as something is in hand, if I can get it past Swmbo.

Prior to going on, need to mark the passing of an "old" friend "Kenmilltri Diamond Geezer" 9 Sept 2003 - 16 Feb 2015, Or as you lot and us here at Eighton Bahn Towers, knew him "Rough" or "Little Guy"

We inherited Rough from family members, farmers who as many do, have too may dogs a little over nine years ago, a farm dog, that had never seen road traffic, and promptly lay down on his back, with his legs in the air, in the middle of the road when a car approached, on his first evening walk. At that point I instantly knew he would fit in here, totally daft as a brush.

Anyhow when the railway started he was quickly established as a member of the team.

There for all the testing.

Some say he had a go himself.

P5050018.JPG
He had a way of reminding you when he wanted attention.

He was on borrowed time after surviving been poisoned in 2013, but he was one of the lucky ones, other dogs in the area died at the time, but we got almost two extra years we were not expecting.

It's nice to have photographs - they may be called pets but they are family members that share our lives in a way that not even our relatives do.

a much loved dog and will always be missed , take heart you did the best for him

Been a while since I posted anything here, so just a quick update.

Daft idea number ?? install Massoth Auto Couplers to new loco.

Its a bit of a rat nest in the wiring inside so why not add some more!!

Now because this is a LGB/Marklin set up and the chip was not "man" enough to work a pair of couplers, have added a 8Fs decoder as well set to work both on F16, it works for me, and that is all that counts , as they say.

But guess who forgot to take pics of that part of the install?

Update

Pics of the 8Fs chip and other bits of the install mods made. Tools required screwdriver, junior hacksaw, 6.5mm drill bit and drill.

Oh yes, need to introduce you to a new member of the team, here at Eighton Bahn Towers.

"Grove`s Son" or as we have called him "Pip".

He is another "Rough" not only a Border Terrier, but indeed related.

ello pipi

Goog evening Pip and welcome you will fit in well there all barking

If we are barking or not here is open for debate ;D

But moving on, after the fitting of the auto couplers to the Ge 4/4, it was decided to fit one to the Stainz, rear only, as the front required a bit of butchering to the chassis.

So the rear would be easier, never a true word spoken in gest as they say.

It was going well.

Until I started to stuff the wires back in the boiler, when!!

20150603_081949 (900 x 675).jpg

Yep I let the smoke out of the chip, thought I had switched off the Central Station, but working in the kitchen, I had switched off the microwave, next socket. :`(

So a new chip was required, so off to our very own Muns, to re order a LS chip, project on hold.

But was soon back on track as it were, with a video of a bench test.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txu-G6Hlt3Y&feature=youtu.be

So without needing an excuse, it was outside for a play test.

P1020039 (900 x 675).jpg

Plus as already posted elsewhere, a couple of videos for good or bad measure, it depends upon your viewpoint.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwXnh1VMmcs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfLPDhXMvBY

Now I should add that in theory the station area is it`s own run round loop, but there is a good reason for that shunt in the first vid, honestly ::)

As they say please yersel......but for the record.

Electrical contact problem was evident on one of the R3 points, which soon became apparent as to the cause.

20150609_094521 (900 x 675).jpg

Now as this is the second time for this point, other blade repaired some time ago, a new point was authorised.
Piko R5, which given the reported QC issues, may be an odd choice, but it`s all I had the spare cash for.

20150609_094534 (900 x 675).jpg

PW squad were soon in action, yesterday, re fettling the track, and as a result, we have lost a rail joint, and re jigged that compound curve.

Seriously I think they only turned up for the photo op, as something tells me the real work was going on just out of sight ;)

That point is repairable, as for the Electrical Contact problems. I always pre insstal permanent wires on my LGB Points to get over reliance of Contact in the Garden environment. Yes I know the soldering slows down the build but belt n braces pays dividends in the long run. Make sure you use Bkack Coated Wire, is pretty well invisible and on the bit where the Blade came off allow a bit extra for Flexing with movement.

Sorry to hear about Grove, there are too may incidents of Dogs getting poisened in the Country. My friend that lives in Norfolk nearly lost her two Golden Retrievers theough a similar incident. Pip is indeed a little cracker. If you ever need a Dog Sitter!
