Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB

Whilst no actual work on Phase III (A) that involves a financial input will commence for a few weeks at least.

Prep work which costs now't can go ahead, so...

'''offcut rails and sleeper done, for the passing loop pointwork, still undecided which way to install them when the time comes...

...recycled building materials cleaned up, creating a spoil (hardcore) heap elsewhere, and stacked ready for use. It's all a bit "green" of me isn't it...

P1030639.JPG

...and talking of green, why should the crocks have all the fun..

P1030649.JPG

...we can allways add a splash of colour...

...in more ways than one.

Getting back to the green, recycling, when I was offered those building materials, courtsey of a neighbours extension works.
I thought where the hell am I going to use all this up. Now it's a case of I think I may not have enough.

Recycled building materials do have a habit of running out, cleaning bricks a good form of the greeness. Hope you used the carp cleaned as well, I tend to use it in foundations mixed 1 bag carp to one bag sharpe sand with relevant amount of ment.

Yep it goes in the foundations as hardcore, and used as packing in slab leveling as necessary.
The real dross, has been used as back fill for the start of landscaping.

The passing loop has seen progress...

...I had expected some minor pick up leccy issues, but none so far, did have a dead short in the V20 diesel, which I have put down to it standing parked up in the shed for weeks.
Maybe something got inside and died, or a bit of dampness causing the short, but it's been running laps of the line with no problems last evening.

More loop testing today...

...rain has now stopped play sorry testing.

I wondered how you were going to find the space for a passing loop on the roadbed you had built. I should have realized that you would just slap some mortar on a few odd bricks and bits, top it off with some slabs and build happily on your way. I really am amazed at how you manage to take various pieces of scrap masonry and build them into a stable structure for the railway! And you seem to be doing it rather quickly of late. (I would use the green with envy smilie, but it ends in a frown.)

There is more to it than that, foundations of sorts, well I go down a good space depth or so, back fill with hardcore, bricks, and cement, a sort of concrete mix, only then slap mortar on a few odd bricks and go from there.

Always the way of things! The hard grafting part is out of view, and all the audience can see is the spectacular front

I had not meant to disparage your work but rather that you make the difficult seem easy.

No offence taken.

Today has seen longer trains...

P1030748.JPGP1030749.JPGP1030750.JPG

...and for good measure, had a bit of a race...

P1030741.JPGP1030742.JPGP1030743.JPGP1030745.JPGP1030746.JPG

...and for good measure, I switched on all of the coach lights, and promptly overloaded the system, when both trains started their up hill climbs.

Mind you 7 coaches, 2 crocks, 4 other locos in the shed powered up and sounds as well, no the wonder, it overloaded, but it was only set at 4 amps. So reset to 7 amps, and try again, yep a current draw of 4,5 amps.

So on into this evening...P1030754.JPGP1030756.JPGP1030760.JPG

Well earned reward for your hard work Gordon, looking really good :)

Amazing job garden

Courtesy of a another forum member the monocle look on the old crok is no more...

...thanks John, for the pair of bezels, now I have a matched set and one for the spares box.

The pulling power of the Stainz is one of those things noted in our railway circles.
Mine it's more of the stalling capacity of late, even with a Massoth 8151001 power buffer fitted.
She is fine on the treadmill, but fails to make a full run out on the track...

P1030767.JPG

Mow on the other hand that orange thingy, with the coat hanger on the roof, not a flicker even at slow speed, and it hasn't got a power buffer, just carn't figure it out.

I can see an upgrade may be on the cards, to a gold cap power buffer, and I may as well install a firebox flicker unit as well, upgrade the smoke unit to a full voltage one, and add a second crew member.

But whilst I ponder that, more running on the main line...

P1030773.JPGP1030777.JPGP1030779.JPGP1030784.JPG

...shorter trains just for the fun of it.
