Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Next Phil, you will be giving me tips on how to operate the camera with one hand,
and turning the dial on a navigator that was in my coat pocket with the other........

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Looks good to me Gordon, great piccys and Video in the snow.......:thumbup:

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Paint shops have been in action.
Couple of those NQD wagons that cause so much passion in certain quarters, have been vandalised.
Which given my painting skills (lack of) is the best way to put it.
So now some befor, during and after shots.

Its still during on one as I have ran out of paint, as can be seen on the middle photo.
Plus I am looking for some small 'O' scale RhB transfers, if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Good work Gordon

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

They look a lot better painted, the plastic they come looks, well very plastic judging from the ones I've seen out here. Well done Gordon :)

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Right better get this over with...

Having run out of paint, to finish the second wagon body, i bought some more, but it was a different make to the first, other sold out.

Outcome was a total disaster, it ran in the places it covered and didn't stick to others....:wits:

So there was no other choice but to strip it and start again.
So after a liberal application of stripper (paint variety) scrubbing and finally a wire brush with the rotary tool,
we had something that looked far worse than it was at the start, and it also fell apart and needed to re glued again....

So another tin of grey was sourced and yesterday it was sprayed outside in glorious sunshine, 6 coats over a 3 hour period.

So now ready for the re fit to the wagon chassis.

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Gordy I always find that the best stuff to use on the NQD plastics is Halfords plastic primer. Give the parts a bit of a rub down with fine wet n dry first and away you go.

Had no issues with running or poor finish so far with the Halfords product. On the other hand I did try Plasikote primer once and it was an absolute nightmare.

Well done for perservering with it matey.

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

as garath says.. welldone for keeping at itgorden., its a learning curve

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Ok another confession time......

Landscaping works on the first heap....

Well it all started with the idea of putting in a soak away around the shed to try and keep the shed dry.
So you dig a trench and fill it with dranage material and top with gravel, and in doing so disturb the heap.
So you then decide to landscape the heap/reducce it in size, cover concrete footings for the bridge piers,
and for good measure, why not rip up a dwarf hedge that has never grown too well and replant it in the mound.

Well it sounds simple, what could ever go wrong.........Well me hitting my head on the underside of the bridge was not in the plan,
nor was me then taking umbridge at the bridge and ripping the deck out and distroying 6 ft of track...

Anyhow repairs are now done and as for the landscaping, its still a work in progress.

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

I understand your response to the brush with the underside of the bridge, Gordon. I'd have done the same. That's a magnificent shot along the bridge. A video along there would be very impressive.

Glad to see it's not just me with drainage issues. Our garage is a big double one and two sides and one end have had water coming in. The fact that the floor is 13 courses of bricks below the window frame and the soil outside only 11 course below seems an obvious reason why this happens. In addition, if the pond gets too high it leaks and finds it's way across the paving stones and into the garage at the end. (Strangely enough, the garage does have a damp proof course - four courses of bricks above the floor!) So I'm carrying out a similar operation to you (when I would like to be working towards my in-garage layout).

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

A bit more landscaping on the mound yesterday, a few more hedge plants, well er planted.
Some stones well er stoned, i can say that as they were chucked at the heap.

Plus a chance to recycle a bridge vid..

Shows the heap befor landscaping, and illustrates what it mainly comprises of.......rubble

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Ok something i've been planning to do for a while, not sure if it's worth the effort, but just something to have a tinker with.

HTO wanted a speed controller for one of his RC boats the other day, so i took the opportunity to pick up a bit of brass rod and yellow paint.

Even he had no idea what they were for.

As i had the paint out this also appeared to be a good idea.

Once the paint had dried, and the boxes sorted to hide the join, we have.

well thats the point, what exactly do they call them?

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Well Folks, its been three months since any developments.

Been busy with the trials of life as they say, or in our case a Silver Wedding Anniversary.

Anyway in the hope that someone reads this rubbish, a minor development today, start on the final station base wall.

Having purchased some sand and cement the other day, needed to set to and lay and secure the base of the wall.
Now as its on a slope, decided to create a sort of stepped foundation using stone kerbs set into the ground, packed with small stone etc, upon which to build the wall.

f167a0006b4f49ba9c36711e12cde7e5.jpg

Now there was never enough for the full length, but as the wall gets shallower at top end some of the stone that is in stock will do for the light end.

Work has paused for now as its too hot, and I am shattered. Any way it needs to settle before I can do anything else, and that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Plus I need to re think the landscaping on the other heap I did earlier as inspite of my best efforts, some of them have pegged it....

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Slow but steady wins the race Nod....

Re:Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB.

Progress on the wall, and a slight change of plan, as planned it was going to be a straight wall, but it would involve diging out an old cherry tree stump and root,
so now is sort of straight with a bend around the offending stump, with will get buried with the fill, eventually...
