Lazy Grange Bay 3...a new start

Its a mystery to me..

As a newcomer to this kind of modelling, I get confused with the different 'foam boards' available. This looks like biggish thick sheets that you can scribe to make it look 3 dimensional. And for outside. Lovely effect by the way. So where do I find these sheets and what do I ask for. I also spotted adhesive. Stuart

Hi Stuart, I use 3mm thick foamex/foambord and I buy it in 8ft x4 ft sheets 5 at a time as its cheaper, with only 1 delivery charge, as its not heavy,
I use 50mg bottles of SX Super glue again off evil bay
Mike

As Mike Foamex is the stuff to use as it is PVC throughout, foam board is PVC with a paper covering and used by crafters and not suitable outside in all weather.

Ok for tools except for a printer. i suppose I could just buy doors etc from Hobbies etc. How complicated is it to produce 3D bits and pieces? I was watching various conversations recently but looks complicated and maybe expensive. Stuart

Hi Stuart,
I used to buy in the windows and doors from Jackson miniatures ?
Or evilbay..
The printer originally cost me £180..
Filamet(stuff used to make things ) I use pla, and it's roughly £15.a kilo roll..
I used 2 rolls to make this bridge ..so the bridge cost me £210..
I looked at buying a aluminium bridge,or something similar, but they cost as much as I spent on the printer..
So I look at it as the printer costs me nothing..now..
Doors and windows to buy in ,£2.50? Each...
Printed. 10p?
How hard...well..I know nothing..
And yes it's a learning curve,
The printer arrives in a big box, partly built, with all the instructions ect, including a video.. to watch while you make it ..al tools included..
Can you cut, paste a file on a pc?
If so...look at *thingyverse *
Download what you want to print..
The software dose the hard bit..
The pc puts it on a sd card which you plug into the printer..and tell the printer to print ..20210719_151202.jpg

Ok so I have gone into Thingiverse. Where do you get your bridge which is very impressive by the way? where do other contributors to this site get their loco bodies or couplings from? Stuart

The bridge, was a adaptation of a design on thingyverse, windows 10 has a 3 d design program..you can modify the 3d design , its time , spent ,sometimes frustrating, to get what you want...I am a beginner at it..its amazing what others can do...the beauty of it is, they freely share the designs on thingyverse
Today I printed these out..a hour per window..20211022_101506.jpg

Yes!! They don't have to be g scale, ..you simply scale it/tell the program how long,,how wide, how high...
You can *edit * the designs..so..you might want the arch of a bow window...not all off it...

Narrr. A Dyson will ..never look this good 20211011_150311.jpg
