Someone had posted here/GSM that they were bashing something "close" to this. They used the Aristocraft C16 drive, LGB Henschel cab and some other bits....
EDIT, second, thought, it may not have been who I thought, so names removed...
I think the loco you're thinking of on the c-16 block was an Engarth 0-8+4-0T, but I can't remember who, or which thread.
For an eight coupled you're kind of limited in options -
- I suspect simplest option is to obtain a complete LGB Rugen 0-8-0T chassis from somewhere and then butcher a U-class body to go on top, preferably without changing the chassis in any way.
- Alternatively you could start with a U and use spare drivers and new rods to stretch it into an 0-8-0, but I suspect it might look a bit thin, rather like a U that's been stretched into an 0-8-0 - maybe you could transplant the fittings, cab and tanks onto a new larger boiler to make it chunkier. Also might be unhappy on R1 with the extra axle.
- The aristo C-16 block will just do R1, but there's never been a version with outside valve gear, so you'd have to sort that out yourself, even if you were starting with a complete loco.
- Only other common inside framed 8-coupled I can think of is the aristo mikado, which does have outside gear, but needs 4ft radius and has nearly 2inch dia wheels, so I'm guessing it's too big.
Do you have a drawing or specs of the prototype giveing wheel diameter etc.?
